Non-invasive pressure simulators that regenerate oscillometric waveforms promise an alternative to expensive clinical trials for validating oscillometric noninvasive blood pressure devices. However, existing simulators only provide oscillometric pressure in cuff and thus have a limited accuracy. It is promising to build a physical simulator that contains a synthetic arm with a built-in brachial...

OBJECTIVE To determine the level of agreement between direct and indirect blood pressure measurements obtained from healthy Hispaniolan Amazon parrots (Amazona ventralis) anesthetized with isoflurane. DESIGN Validation study. ANIMALS 16 healthy adult Hispaniolan Amazon parrots. PROCEDURES Parrots were anesthetized, and a 26-gauge, 19-mm catheter was placed percutaneously in the superficia...

A significant association of office diastolic blood pressure with low-level blood lead exposure was reported in a Brazilian adult population. However, caution should be taken to interpret these results. The multivariable-adjusted association with blood pressure was positive for diastolic blood pressure, but inverse for systolic blood pressure. The association sizes were infinitesimal without cl...

A blood pressure monitor or sphygmomanometer can be either manual or automatic, employing respectively either the auscultatory method or the oscillometric method. The manual version of the sphygmomanometer involves an inflatable cuff with a stethoscope adopted to detect the sounds generated by the arterial walls to measure blood pressure in an artery. An automatic sphygmomanometer can be effect...

The accuracy of blood pressure measurements obtained from very low birthweight (less than 1500 g) neonates using the Dinamap oscillometric monitor was investigated. Comparisons using umbilical artery measurements showed that the monitor is less reliable in the lower pressure range and specifically that it tends to overestimate pressure in hypotensive infants.

Forty three children with diabetes were recruited to evaluate home blood pressure monitoring using an electronic oscillometric sphygmomanometer (Philips HP5330). This device was found to be simple to use and reliable. It fulfilled the accuracy criteria of the American Association for the Advancement of Medical Instrumentation for both systolic and diastolic blood pressure and those of the Briti...

OBJECTIVE The estimation of blood pressure is dependent on the accuracy of the measurement devices. We compared blood pressure readings obtained with an automated oscillometric arm-cuff device and with an automated oscillometric wrist-cuff device and then assessed the prevalence of defined blood pressure categories. METHODS Within a population-based survey in Dar es Salaam (Tanzania), we sele...
