Recently, SPARQL-DL was introduced in [7] as a rich query language for OWL-DL ontologies. It provides an OWL-DL-like semantics for SPARQL basic graph patterns which involves as special cases both conjunctive ABox queries and mixed TBox/RBox/ABox queries over Description Logic (DL) ontologies. This paper describes the implementation of a SPARQL-DL query engine and discusses several optimizations...

The Web Ontology Language OWL is the W3C standard for modeling ontologies for the web. It is based on description logics, a fragment of firstorder logic. Traditionally, however, logic programming has always been an alternative ontology modeling paradigm, and is frequently being used in large research projects and industrial applications, e.g., by means of the F-Logic reasoning engine OntoBroker...

We describe ongoing work on the mapping between Attempto Controlled English (ACE) and OWL DL. ACE is a well-studied controlled language, with a parser that converts ACE texts into Discourse Representation Structure (DRS). We describe a relatively direct mapping of a subset of the DRS language to OWL DL. This mapping renders ACE an interesting companion to existing OWL front-ends.

Title of dissertation: DEBUGGING AND REPAIR OF OWL ONTOLOGIES Aditya Kalyanpur, Doctor of Philosophy, 2006 Dissertation directed by: Professor James Hendler Department of Computer Science With the advent of Semantic Web languages such as OWL (Web Ontology Language), the expressive Description Logic SHOIN is exposed to a wider audience of ontology users and developers. As an increasingly large n...

The Foundational Model of Anatomy (FMA) represents the result of manual and disciplined modeling of the structural organization of the human body. It is a tremendous resource in bioinformatics that facilitates sharing of information among applications that use anatomy knowledge. The FMA was developed in Protégé and the Protégé frames language is the canonical representation language for the FMA...

Nonmonotonic DL-programs provide a loose integration of Description Logic (DL) ontologies and Logic Programming (LP) rules with negation, where a rule engine can query an ontology with a native DL reasoner. However, in most systems for DL-programs, the overhead of an external DL reasoner might be considerable. Datalog-rewritable DL ontologies, such as most fragments of OWL 2 RL, OWL 2 EL, and O...

Existing approaches for querying OWL DL do either only operate on syntactic constructs without taking into account the semantics of OWL or do only have a restricted access to the T-Box. We present OWL-SAIQL, the novel Schema And Instance Query Language for OWL DL, that is well suited for ontology extraction. We describe its syntax and provide a model-theoretic semantics for OWL-SAIQL. Furthermo...
