The syntheses and single crystal X-ray analyses of five strapped salicylaldoxime/salicylaldimine based dicopper(ii) receptors utilising a new piperazine linker are described. The complexes form 2 + 2 metallocycles and the molecular structures of all four complexes possess a small internal cavity with the utilisation of a short piperazine linker. The molecular structures of complexes [Cu2(L(4) -...

We have structurally and magnetically characterized a total of 12 complexes based on the Single-Molecule Magnet (SMM) [MnIII6O2(sao)6(O2CH)2(MeOH) 4] (1) (where sao2- is the dianion of salicylaldoxime or 2-hydroxybenzaldeyhyde oxime) that display analogous structural cores but remarkably different magnetic behaviors. Via the use of derivatized oxime ligands and bulky carboxylates we show that i...
A series of copper(ii) complexes with earlier reported ligands N,N'-bis(2-hydroxyiminopropionyl)-1,2-diaminoethane (H(2)pen) and 1,3-diaminopropane (H(2)pap) and novel open chain oxime and amide ligands, N,N'-bis(2-hydroxyiminopropionyl)-1,5-diaminopentane (H(2)papt), 1,6-diaminohexane (H(2)pah) and 1,7-diaminoheptane (H(2)pahp), were prepared and characterized by a variety of spectroscopic met...
Substitution of the amide donors in open-chain {2N(oxime), 2N(amide)} ligands by hydrazide donors gives new pseudo-macrocyclic copper complexes that show a significant decrease of the Cu(3+/2+) redox potentials in both mono- and polynuclear systems, thus demonstrating a pronounced capacity of such ligand systems to efficiently stabilize the trivalent copper.
The first use of methyl 2-pyridyl ketone oxime (mpkoH) in zinc(II)/lanthanide(III) chemistry leads to the [ZnLn(mpko)3(mpkoH)3](ClO4)2 and [ZnLn(NO3)2(mpko)3(mpkoH)] families of dinuclear Zn(II)Ln(III) complexes displaying blue-green, ligand-based photoluminescence; the Zn(II)Dy(III) compound shows field-induced relaxation of magnetization.
Playing it safe: The nontoxic cyanide source K4 [Fe(CN)6]·3H2O can be used for the cyanation of (hetero)aryl halides. The application of palladacycle catalysts prevents poisoning during catalyst formation, thereby allowing for low catalyst loadings, fast reaction times, and wide heterocyclic substrate scope.
A highly efficient and practical protocol for palladacycle-catalyzed decarboxylative coupling of alkynyl carboxylic acids with aryl chlorides was developed. The reaction could proceed smoothly in air within 3 h under optimized reaction conditions (1 mol % of palladacycle, 4 mol % of Xphos, 2.0 equiv of K2CO3 in xylene/H2O), affording the corresponding internal alkynes in mostly good to excellen...
The design of new ligands and investigation of UO2(2+) complexations are an essential aspect of reducing the cost of extracting uranium from seawater, improving the sorption efficiency for uranium and the selectivity for uranium over competing ions (such as the transition metal cations). The binding strengths of salicylaldoxime-UO2(2+) complexes were quantified for the first time and compared w...
Carbon monoxide has been found to possess various beneficial effects in living organisms. To study the effects of CO further and to develop potential pharmaceutical agents, a meaningful method for delivering CO to the target organ is needed. It has been found that under physiological conditions various metal carbonyl complexes release carbon monoxide. In this study six novel ruthenium carbonyl ...
