Despite potent immunosuppression, clinical and biopsy confirmed acute renal allograft rejection (AR) still occurs in 10-15% of recipients, ~30% of patients demonstrate subclinical rejection on biopsy, and ~50% of them can show molecular inflammation, all which increase the risk of chronic dysfunction and worsened allograft outcomes. Mitochondria represent intracellular endogenous triggers of in...
Henoch-Schönlein purpura (HSP) is a common self-limited vasculitis in children. The long-term prognosis depends on renal involvement. In severe Henoch-Schönlein purpura nephritis (HSPN) patients, >50 % have crescent formation and nephrotic syndrome that are important predicted outcomes. Therefore, for such patients, an aggressive immunosuppressive therapy is needed to prevent the progression. H...

Protocol biopsies should not (yet) be the standard of care in pediatric renal transplant recipients.
Editorial Protocol biopsies should not (yet) be the standard of care in pediatric renal transplant recipients The care and management of renal transplant recipients, and especially of pediatric renal transplant recipients, is potentially complex and exacting. Balancing the amount of immunosup-pression to prevent toxicity and to avoid rejection is not always straightforward. In addition, the spe...
isolated hematuria and its association with proteinuria, and urinary cast and systemic lupus erythematosus (sle) disease activity, and decision for renal biopsy is a dilemma for physician in sle patients. the aim of this study was to investigate 1. whether isolated hematuria is associated with active sle, 2. to determine duration between hematuria and proteinuria and urinary cast, and 3. to det...
BACKGROUND Percutaneous renal biopsy (PRB) is essential for the diagnosis, prognosis, and management of children with unknown kidney disease. In this study, the safety and efficacy of PRB is investigated, and also the common etiologies of childhood kidney disease, based on histological findings. In addition, we explored the role of PRBs in the diagnosis of children who presented with persistent...
A male patient with acute renal failure (ARF) due to large B-cell non-Hodgkin lymphoma infiltration of kidney is presented. The diagnosis was suspected because of coincidence of ARF and tumor lysis syndrome non-responsive to conservative renal therapies. A renal biopsy confirmed diagnosis and appropriate chemotherapy led to complete improvement of renal function.
