Giant Cavernous Haemangioma of the Anterior Mediastinum Anterior Mediastende Dev Kavernöz Hemanjiom
Cavernous hemangiomas of the anterior mediastinum is rare. We present a case of a 56-year-old male patient with a giant cavernous hemangioma of the anterior mediastinum, 18 cm in diameters, approached by left posterolateral thoracotomy. To the best of our knowledge, such a unique case has not been previously presented in the literature.
Development of a postoperative seroma is a frequent complication after muscle-sparing thoracotomy. We describe an unusual case of late mediastinal shift in a patient in whom our original plan to perform a limited muscle-sparing thoracotomy was abandoned. The procedure was converted to a standard posterolateral incision to perform a pneumonectomy for a large central carcinoid tumor with extrabro...
Primary hyperparathyroidism from a parathyroid adenoma is common. Ectopic parathyroid glands have been reported in numerous locations, including the chest. We present a single case report of an intrapericardial parathyroid gland found after failed bilateral neck exploration. The patient presented with severe, recurrent nephrolithiasis and acute renal failure prior to his surgical intervention. ...
Intrathoracic goiter is commonly located in the anterior mediastinum. Here we report a case of a 58-year-old Chinese male in whom we successfully removed the intrathoracic goiter and eased his dyspnea by a right posterolateral thoracotomy approach. Posterior mediastinal thyroid goiter with mediastinal compressive symptoms is an indication of surgery.
Background Subclavian and axillary arteries true aneurysms are rarely seen. The best incision for surgical approach is median sternotomy for intrathoracic right subclavian artery aneurysm, left thoracotomy for intrathoracic left subclavian artery aneurysm and supraclavicular incision for extrathoracic ones. Many surgeons approaches as subclavicular incision, subclavicular incision extending to ...

Primary rhabdomyosarcoma is a rare entity. To date, only 29 cases have been reported in the world literature. The current article presents another case of this disease, in which a 3-year-old boy was referred to our service with a one-week history of productive cough and fever. Imaging studies revealed a huge mass on the right lung as well as plural effusion. He underwent a right posterolateral ...
A best evidence topic was written according to a structured protocol. The question addressed was whether muscle-sparing thoracotomy (MST), as opposed to posterolateral thoracotomy (PLT), results in better recovery. A total of 108 papers were found using the reported searches of which eight represented the best evidence to answer the clinical question. The authors, date, journal, study type, pop...
