The C12•`C36 sym. ƒ¿-glycols were prepared from acyloins by catalytic hydrogenation with Raney nickel. The properties of ƒ¿-glycols were studied. Melting point of the ƒ¿-glycol is higher than that of the corresponding acyloin or ƒ¿-diketone and decreases with chain length. Two hydroxyl groups can be quantitatively acetylated by acetic anhydride, and reacted with 3, 5-dinitrobenzoyl chloride to ...

Caprylyl glycol and related 1,2-glycols are used mostly as skin and hair conditioning agents and viscosity agents in cosmetic products, and caprylyl glycol and pentylene glycol also function as cosmetic preservatives. The Expert Panel noted that these ingredients are dermally absorbed and that modeling data predict decreased skin penetration of longerchain 1,2-glycols. The Panel concluded that ...

The aim of this study was to assess the influence of qualitative and quantitative base composition on pharmaceutical availability of metronidazole. Hydrogels contain water dispersion of 2% Carbopol 971P and various concentration of glycerol, polyethylene glycol and propylene glycol were preparated. Produced formulations were neutralized to the pH 6.0-6.5 with triethanolamine, and metronidazole ...

Sphingopyxis macrogoltabida strain 203, the type strain of the species, grew on polyethylene glycol (PEG) and has been deposited to the stock culture at the Biological Resource Center, National Institute of Technology and Evaluation (NITE), under the number NBRC 15033. Here, we report the complete genome sequence of strain NBRC 15033. Unfortunately, genes for PEG degradation were missing.

The present study represents part of an effort in considering the replacement of ethylene-glycol/water mixtures with propyleneglycol/water mixtures for engine cooling in automotive application. Experimental results are presented for the heat transfer coeffic ient under flow boiling conditions for water and mixtures of water with ethylene-glycol and propylene-glycol. The range covered includes t...

Chitosan films were plasticized with four hydrophilic compounds, namely, glycerol (GLY), ethylene glycol (EG), poly(ethylene glycol) (PEG), and propylene glycol (PG). Our objective was to investigate the effect of plasticizers on mechanical and surface properties of chitosan films. The stability of plasticized films was observed by storage for 3 and 20 weeks in an environmental chamber at 50 +/...

Plasticizer effect on oxygen permeability (OP) of beta-lactoglobulin (beta-Lg) films was studied. Propylene glycol (PG), glycerol (Gly), sorbitol (Sor), sucrose (Suc), and polyethylene glycol at MW 200 and 400 (PEG 200 and PEG 400, respectively) were studied due to their differences in composition, shape, and size. Suc-plasticized beta-Lg films gave the best oxygen barrier (OP < 0.05 cm3 x micr...

The complete genome sequence of Sphingopyxis terrae strain 203-1, which is capable of growing on polyethylene glycol, was determined. The genome consisted of a chromosome with a size of 3.98 Mb and a plasmid with a size of 4,328 bp. The strain was deposited to the National Institute of Technology and Evaluation (Tokyo, Japan) under the number NBRC 111660.

Propylene glycol and triacetin are chemical compounds, commonly used as food additives. Though the usage of the pure chemicals is not considered harmful when used as dietary supplements, little is known about the nature of their thermal degradation products and the impact they may have on human health. For these reasons, in this manuscript we investigate the thermal decomposition mechanisms of ...
