in this study ptfeco ternary alloys nanoparticles of three dimentional (3d) rhombus shapes dispersed on graphene nanosheets (ptfeco/gr) were successfully prepared and studied as electrocatalysts for oxygen reduction reaction (orr) in polymer-electrolyte fuel cells. a combination of analytical techniques including powder x-ray diffraction, x-ray photoelectron spectra, inductively coupled plasma-...
Au nanocrystals (AuNCs) with a size of 10-20 nm decorated on graphene oxide (GO) were fabricated successfully through a hydrothermal reduction and crystallization route without any extra reductants and capping agents. The hydrophobic areas of GO benefit the formation of nanocrystals (NCs) with {111} facets totally exposed; however, the hydrophilic areas are detrimental to the crystallization. T...
The combinational modification of the morphology, alloying, and support for Pt catalysts has been optimized towards the oxygen reduction reaction. Graphene-supported PtPd nanorods have lower unfilled Pt d-states than carbon-supported Pt nanoparticles (Pt/C) and their specific and mass activities after the accelerated durability test are about 6.5 and 2.7 times higher than those of Pt/C, attribu...
Carbon-supported precious metal catalysts are widely used in heterogeneous catalysis and electrocatalysis, and enhancement of catalyst dispersion and stability by controlling the interfacial structure is highly desired. Here we report a new method to deposit metal oxides and metal nanoparticles on graphene and form stable metal-metal oxide-graphene triple junctions for electrocatalysis applicat...
Freestanding graphene membranes were successfully functionalized with platinum nanoparticles (Pt NPs). High-resolution transmission electron microscopy revealed a homogeneous distribution of single-crystal Pt NPs that tend to exhibit a preferred orientation. Unexpectedly, the NPs were also found to be partially exposed to the vacuum with the top Pt surface raised above the graphene substrate, a...
We have studied large areas of (√3×√3)R30° graphene commensurate with a Pt(111) substrate. A combination of experimental techniques with ab initio density functional theory indicates that this structure is related to a reconstruction at the Pt surface, consisting of an ordered vacancy network formed in the outermost Pt layer and a graphene layer covalently bound to the Pt substrate. The formati...
The properties of graphene are strongly affected by metal adsorbates and clusters on graphene. Here, we study the effect of a thin layer of platinum (Pt) metal on exfoliated single, bi- and trilayer graphene and on chemical vapor deposition-grown single-layer graphene by using Raman spectroscopy and transport measurements. The Raman spectra and transport measurements show that Pt affects the st...
We developed a facile strategy for clean synthesis of Pt/CeO(2)/graphene nanomaterials with remarkably enhanced catalytic properties. The graphene oxide (GO) could be used as an oxidant to oxidize Ce(3+) into CeO(2) NPs, and l-lysine was used as a linker to realize the in situ growth of Pt NPs around CeO(2) NPs dispersed on graphene.
