Over the last years, significant progress has been made both on static and runtime program verification techniques, focusing on increasing the quality of software. Within this track, we would like to investigate how we can leverage these techniques by combining them. Questions that will be addressed are for example: what can static verification bring to runtime verification to reduce impact on ...
Interaction protocol verification has been in recent years intensively investigated within and outside multi-agent research. Many techniques and models have been proposed based on a number of assumptions and choices, among which are the kind of knowledge available and the kind of properties that are subject of verification. We focus on interaction protocol verification in open multi-agent syste...
Probabilistic correctness is an important aspect of reliable systems. A soft real-time system, for instance, may be designed to tolerate some degree of deadline misses under a threshold. Since probabilistic systems may behave differently from their probabilistic models depending on their current environments, checking the systems at runtime can provide another level of assurance for their proba...
In this paper, a uniform approach for synthesizing monitors checking correctness properties specified in linear-time logics at runtime is provided. Therefore, a generic three-valued semantics is introduced reflecting the idea that prefixes of infinite computations are checked. Then a conceptual framework to synthesize monitors from a logical specification to check an execution incrementally is ...
In order to detect incorrect program behaviors, a number of approaches have been proposed, which include a combination of language-level constructs (procedure-level annotations such as assertions/contracts, gradual types, etc.) and associated tools (such as static code analyzers and run-time verification frameworks). However, it is often the case that these constructs and tools are not used to ...
The base class library of the .NET Framework makes extensive use of the Code Access Security system to ensure that partially trusted code can be executed securely. Imperative or declarative permission demands indicate where permission checks have to be performed at run time to make sure partially trusted code does not exceed the permissions granted to it in the security policy. In this paper we...
Run-time verification has been widely advocated in the last decade as a key technique to check whether the execution of a business process and its interactions with partner services comply with the application requirements. Despite the substantial research performed in this area, there are very few approaches that leverage model-driven engineering (MDE) methodologies and integrate them in the d...
The Eiffel method and language integrate a number of ideas originating from work on program verification. This position paper describes the goals of the Eiffel approach, presents current Eiffel-based verification techniques using contracts for run-time checks for testing and debugging, and outlines ongoing work on static verification.
JNuke is a framework for verification and model checking of Java programs. It is a novel combination of run-time verification, explicit-state model checking, and counter-example exploration. Efficiency is crucial in dynamic verification. Therefore JNuke has been written from scratch in C, improving performance and memory usage by an order of magnitude compared to competing approaches and tools.
