Abstract Salt weathering is one of the most important causes deterioration in built environment. Two crucial aspects need further investigation to understand processes and find suitable measures: impact different climatic environments properties salt mixture crystallization. We demonstrate importance kinetics quantifying crystallization dissolution cycles by combining droplet capillary laborato...

OBJECTIVE Sweat chloride measurement is considered a standard diagnostic tool for cystic fibrosis (CF). This study was performed to compare sweat chloride values obtained by quantitative pilocarpine iontophoresis (classic test) with sweat crystallization detected by direct observation of a drop of perspiration under light microscopy in patients with and without CF. METHODS The tests using bot...

Using complementary physical-chemical techniques we defined five different crystallization pathways as functions of time (30 days) and increasing lecithin (egg yolk) content in pathophysiologically relevant model biles super-saturated (cholesterol saturation indices, 1.2 - 2.7) by dilution of approximately equal to 29 g/dl bile salt-lecithin-cholesterol micellar solutions. As evidenced by quasi...

A methodology is presented for the synthesis of fractional crystallization processes. The methodology is based on the construction of four networks. The first network is based on the identification of feasible thermodynamic states. In this network the nodes correspond to multiple saturation points, solute intermediate, process feeds and end products. The second network is used to represent the ...

It is well known that sodium sulfate causes salt crystallization damage in building materials and rocks. However since the early 1900s the existence of the metastable heptahydrate has been largely forgotten and almost entirely overlooked in scientific publications on salt damage mechanics and on terrestrial and planetary geochemistry. We use hard synchrotron x-rays to detect the formation of th...

The effect of coupling the salt concentration gradient crystallization method with the use of the paramagnetic salt MnCl(2) and a magnetic field is reported. The use of a simple magnetic device is proposed to have a significant effect on hen egg-white lysozyme crystal growth. Large single crystals greater than 10 mm(3) in volume with optical perfection were consistently obtained in this study.

The present paper reports an organic solvent-induced controllable crystallization of a water-soluble inorganic salt Na(3)[Au(SO(3))(2)] into ultralong nanobelts and hierarchical microstructures of one-dimensional (1D) nanowires. It was found that the morphology of the resulting crystals can be fine tuned by simply varying the experimental parameters, such as the ratios of water to organic solve...

The aim of the investigation is to validate the potential of SAS crystallization process to resolve racemic ibuprofen. The resolution is performed via diastereomic salt formation and subsequent salt precipitation in a supercritical CO2 environment. Firstly, the operating conditions, using (S)-α-methylbenzylamine as resolving agent, were optimized. Secondly, the measurement of the binary phase d...

CaZrO3 nanoceramics were successfully synthesized at 700 C using the molten salt method, and the effects of processing parameters, such as temperature, holding time, and amount of salt on the crystallization of CaZrO3 were investigated. CaCl2, Na2CO3, and nano-ZrO2 were used as starting materials. On heating, CaCl2–NaCl molten eutectic salt provided a liquid medium for the reaction of CaCO3 an...

The purpose of the paper is to determine the influence of two widely used steel fibers and polypropylene fibers on the sulphate crystallization resistance, freeze–thaw resistance and surface wettability of ultra-high performance concrete (UHPC). Tests were carried out on cubes and cylinders of plain UHPC and fiber reinforced UHPC with varying contents ranging from 0.25 to 1% steel fibers and/or...
