studies by the us salinity laboratory, using gapon rule, led to the value of 0.01475 (mmol l-1)-0.5for the modified gapon selectivity coefficient (k'g). nevertheless, the results of subsequent research reveled that k'g isn’t constant and could take on a wide range of values depending on soil properties. the aim of this study was to determine the relationship between exchangeable sodiu...

Vegetation in the Arctic is often sparse, spatially heterogeneous, and difficult to model. Synthetic Aperture Radar (SAR) has shown some promise in above-ground phytomass estimation at sub-arctic latitudes, but the utility of this type of data is not known in the context of the unique environments of the Canadian High Arctic. In this paper, Artificial Neural Networks (ANNs) were created to mode...

A linear relationship between ERS-2 SAR backscattering coe cient (s0 ) and volumetric soil moisture was determined at both ends of a rainfall gradient in Israel. A Normalized radar Backscatter soil Moisture Index (NBMI) was derived and related strongly to soil moisture concentration. This index may allow the mapping of soil moisture conditions over large areas with C band SAR data.

A series of novel N-acylated benzimidazolone derivatives, were synthesized from 4-aminobenzoic acid, and their antifungal activities against Botrytis cinerea were evaluated by spore germination assay. Preliminary results indicated that most of the benzimidazolone derivatives had inhibitory effect on spore germination, among which 6-carboxylate substituted derivatives were more effective than it...

BACKGROUND AND PURPOSE Recent work has shown a potential for excessive heating of deep brain stimulation electrodes during MR imaging. This in vitro study investigates the relationship between electrode heating and the specific absorption rate (SAR) of several MR images. METHODS In vitro testing was performed by using a 1.5-T MR imaging system and a head transmit-receive coil, with bilateral ...

Proteins are studied by measuring different properties, typically the chemical structure and biochemical activity. Given that these measurements are done on the same protein molecule, they must be related. Despite the fact that this relationship exists, the mathematical nature of this relationship has remained elusive to our understanding, and is not commonly considered in the so called “struct...

Salicylic acid (SA) is an important phytohormone that plays a vital role in a number of physiological responses, including plant defense. The last two decades have witnessed a number of breakthroughs related to biosynthesis, transport, perception and signaling mediated by SA. These findings demonstrate that SA plays a crictical role in both local and systemic defense responses. Systemic acquire...

There has been a considerable effort to understand and quantify the spatial distribution of species across different ecosystems. Relative species abundance (RSA), beta diversity and species-area relationship (SAR) are among the most used macroecological measures to characterize plants communities in forests. In this paper we introduce a simple phenomenological model based on Poisson cluster pro...

Small organic molecules, by binding to different proteins, can be used to modulate (inhibit/activate) their functions for therapeutic purposes and to elucidate the molecular mechanisms underlying biological processes. Over the decades structure-activity-relationship (SAR) models have been developed to quantify the bioactivity relationship of a chemical compound interacting with a target protein...
