The purpose of this study was to compare the essential oil profiles of four South-Croatian Satureja species, as determined by GC/FID and GC/MS, with their DNA sequences for an internal transcribed spacer (ITS1-5.8S-ITS2) of the nuclear ribosomal DNA. A phylogenetic analysis showed that S. montana and S. cuneifolia, characterized by a similar essential oil composition, rich in the monoterpene hy...
The genus Satureja belonging to the Lamiaceae family includes about 200 species, generally aromatic, distributed in Mediterranean basin. In Satureja, chromosomal data were reported from only 26 species. this study, it is aimed eliminate deficiencies of which are Turkey, center origin and diversity Satureja. It was one chromosome number (2n = 30), first report for numbers three taxa, same count ...
The genus Satureja L. (Lamiaceae) consists of more than 200 species of herbaceous perennials worldwide. The Mediterranean region can be described as the center of the genus (1). This genius in flora of Iran is represented by fourteen species distributed commonly in rocky mountains (2, 3). Nine Satureja species has been reported in ìFlora Iranicaî (4), two of which, S. kallarica Jamzad and S. ba...
BACKGROUND AND OBJECTIVES The aim of this study was to evaluate the chemical composition and antimicrobial activity of Satureja hortensis and Trachyspermum copticum essential oils against different kinds of microorganisms in vitro. MATERIAL AND METHODS The antimicrobial activity was evaluated by micro broth dilution assay and the chemical composition of essential oils was analyzed by GC and G...
Trypanosoma cruzi, a hemoflagellate protozoan (family Trypanosomatidae), is the ethiological agent of Chagas disease, which is affecting 16-18 million people, with more than 100 million exposed to the risk of infection. Higher plants are a potential source of new drugs to improve the treatment of Chagase disease. Until recently, Rutacea, Meliaceae, Simaroubaceae and Burceraceae families have be...

Extraction and chromatographic separation of the extracts of dried stem barks of Glycosmis macrantha lead to isolation of two new acridone alkaloids, macranthanine and 7-hydroxynoracronycine, and a known acridone, atalaphyllidine. The structures of these alkaloids were determined by detailed spectral analysis and also by comparison with reported data.
Little is known about how exotics influence the ecophysiology of co-occurring native plants or how invader impact on plant physiology may be mediated by community diversity or resource levels. We measured the effect of the widespread invasive forb spotted knapweed (Centaurea maculosa) on leaf traits (leaf dry matter content, specific leaf area, leaf nitrogen percentage, leaf C:N ratios, and del...
HIGHLIGHTS Essential oil contents of T. spicata, L. X Intermedia, S. macrantha and R. officinalis was determined. The main components these plants were monoterpenoid spicata showed strong effects against three microorganisms.
BACKGROUND AND OBJECTIVES Pseudomonas aeruginosa is a Gram-negative, aerobic bacterium found in water and soil. It is a normal flora in skin and gastrointestinal tract of human beings. P. aeruginosa as an opportunistic pathogen involved in nosocomial infections having multiple pathogenic factors and shows high rate of resistance to different antibiotics. The aim of this study was to identify th...
