GMPP Activities Highlighted in this Issue GPCI analyzes weather and climate models along a cross section of the Pacific Ocean. Histograms of total cloud cover versus latitude along the GPCI cross section for June–July–August 1998 from the UKMO/HadGAM model, ISCCP and the NCAR/CAM3 model. These show that some climate models (e.g., UKMO/HadGAM) exhibit a quasi-bimodal structure with cloud cover b...
Suppose V and U are two independent mean zero random variables, where V has an asymmetric distribution with two mass points and U has some zero odd moments (having a symmetric distribution su¢ ces). We show that the distributions of V and U are nonparametrically identi ed just from observing the sum V + U , and provide a rate root n estimator. This can permit point identi cation of average trea...
Effects of 8 B size and interaction asymptotics on the low - energy 7 Be ( p , γ ) 8 B cross section
We calculate several B observables within the microscopic three-cluster model and study their potential constraints on the zero-energy astrophysical S factor of the Be(p, γ)B reaction. We find that these observables are in good agreement with the phenomenological values. Thus, the microscopic three-cluster model predicts a rather large value of S17(0) = (24− 26.5) eVb. We also replace the Gauss...
Twist-three analysis of photon electroproduction off pion. Abstract We study twist-three effects in spin, charge, and azimuthal asymmetries in deeply virtual Compton scattering on a spin-zero target. Contributions which are power suppressed in 1/Q generate a new azimuthal angle dependence of the cross section which is not present in the leading twist results. On the other hand the leading twist...
A novel method to look for neutrino oscillations is proposed based on the elastic scattering process ν̄ie − → ν̄ie−, taking advantage of the dynamical zero present in the differential cross section for ν̄ee − → ν̄ee−. An effective tunable experiment between the ”appearance” and ”disappearance” limits is made possible. Prospects to exclude the allowed region for atmospheric neutrino oscillations are...
We have computed finite temperature corrections to the electron-hadron scattering cross sections. These are based upon the renormalized electron mass and the modified density of states due to the presence of a background thermal bath. It is found that the electron-hadron thermal transport scattering cross section can be much larger than the zero temperature one. In the case of electronneutron t...
We study twist-three effects in spin, charge, and azimuthal asymmetries in deeply virtual Compton scattering on a spin-zero target. Contributions which are power suppressed in 1/Q generate a new azimuthal angle dependence of the cross section which is not present in the leading twist results. On the other hand the leading twist terms are not modified by the twist three contributions. They may g...
Twist-three analysis of photon electroproduction off pion. Abstract We study twist-three effects in spin, charge, and azimuthal asymmetries in deeply virtual Compton scattering off a spin-zero target. Power suppressed contributions generate a new azimuthal angle dependence in the cross section, not present in the leading twist approximation. On the other hand the structures induced by the latte...
We present new results for the jet-veto efficiency and zero-jet cross section in Higgs production through gluon fusion. We incorporate the N3LO corrections to the total cross section, the NNLO corrections to the 1-jet rate, NNLL resummation for the jet pt and LL resummation for the jet radius dependence. Our results include known finite-mass corrections and are obtained using the jet-veto effic...
