This work is focused on the design and evaluation of a suboptimal classifier for dysarthria assessment. The classification relied on self organizing maps to discriminate 8 types of dysarthria and a normal group. The classification technique provided an excellent accuracy for assessment and enabled clinicians with a powerful relevance analysis of the input features. This technique also allows a ...

We present an approach based on self organizing maps to segment renal arteries from 2D PC Cine MR images to measure blood velocity and flow. Such information are important in grading renal artery stenosis and support the decision on surgical interventions like percutan transluminal angioplasty. Results show that the renal arteries could be extracted automatically. The corresponding velocity pro...

In this article, we introduce the concept of pathways of wellbeing and examine how such paths can be discovered from large data sets using the self-organizing map. Data sets used in the illustrative experiments include measurements of physical fitness and subjective assessments related to diagnosing work stress.

This paper proposes an extension of an SOM called the “SOM of SOMs,” or SOM, in which objects to be mapped are self-organizing maps. In SOM, each nodal unit of a conventional SOM is replaced by a function module of SOM. Therefore, SOM can be regarded as a variation of a modular network SOM (mnSOM). Since each child SOM module in SOM is trained to represent an individual map, the parent map in S...

It is often reported in the technique literature that the success of the self-organizing feature map (SOM) formation is critically dependent on the initial weights and the selection of main parameters of the algorithm, namely, the learning-rate parameter and the neighborhood set. In this paper, we propose a healing mechanism to repair feature maps that are not well topologically ordered. The he...

Given a self–dual map on the sphere, the collection of its self– dual permutations generates a transformation group in which the map automorphism group appears as a subgroup of index two. A careful examination of this pairing yields direct constructions of self–dual maps and provides a classification of self–dual maps.
