Introduction When a liquid is irradiated with high-intensity and low-frequency ultrasound, acoustic cavitation occurs and there are some methods to determine and quantify this phenomenon. The existing methods for performing these experiments include sonochemiluminescence (SCL) and chemical dosimetric methods. The particles in a liquid decrease the ultrasonic intensity threshold needed for cavit...
PURPOSE To determine whether a hyperintense layer adjacent to the lateral ventricle on T2-weighted MR images represents the optic radiation. METHODS We reviewed 11 brain specimens from patients with nonneurologic diseases and MR images from 43 healthy volunteers. The MR images in a patient with cerebral infarction involving the lateral geniculate body were also reviewed to evaluate wallerian ...
The effect of signal intensity (proportion of dots moving in the same direction compared to noise dots that move in random directions) on perceived speed was investigated. It was found that increasing signal level decreased the perceived speed of the stimulus. This finding indicates that global-motion pooling processes play a role in the extraction of speed information. It is suggested that the...
A signal-subspace method is derived for the localization and imaging of unknown scatterers using intensity-only wave field data (lacking field phase information). The method is an extension of the time-reversal multiple-signal-classification imaging approach to intensity-only data. Of importance, the derived methodology works within exact scattering theory including multiple scattering.
The goal of the WiFinder project is to develop a robot that will find the strongest 802.11 signal in a room. In order to do this, the robot first maps out the 802.11 signal intensity using RSSI measurements, and then find the position of maximal signal strength intensity within the mapped area. In doing so, the robot implicitly solve the localization problem over a large, two dimensional grid. ...

INTRODUCTION Loud sounds can decrease reaction time (RT) and increase force generated during voluntary contractions. Accordingly, we hypothesized that the loud starter's pistol at the Olympic Games allows runners closer to the starter to react sooner and stronger than runners farther away. METHODS RT for the 100/110 m athletics events at the 2004 Olympics were obtained from International Asso...
