The reports on familial Down's syndrome (mongolism) date in the medical literature from the 20th years of this century. Familial Down's syndrome is now well-described event but relatively rare. Penrose states that pairs of affected sibs appear about once for every 100 single cases of mongolism collected at random (quoted by Soltan et al. 1964). About two-thirds of the mongoloids are close relat...

The small x behaviour of the structure function h1(x,Q ) is studied within the leading logarithmic approximation of perturbative QCD. There are two contributions relevant at small x. The leading one behaves like ( 1 x ) i.e. it is just a constant in this limit. The second contribution, suppressed by one power of x, includes the terms summed by the GLAP equation. Thus for h1(x,Q ) the GLAP asymp...
We present a theoretical scheme based on su(2) algebra to investigate the influence of homogeneous gravitational field on the quantum nondemolition measurement of atomic momentum in dispersive JaynesCummings model. In the dispersive Jaynes-Cummings model, when detuning is large and the atomic motion is in a propagating light wave, we consider a two-level atom with quantized cavity-field in the ...
Measurements of the gluon polarization ∆G G via the open charm channel and based on the helicity asymmetry of large transverse-momentum hadrons in the final state are presented. The data have been collected in the years 2002-2004 by the COMPASS experiment at CERN using a 160 GeV/c polarized muon beam scattered off a polarized 6LiD target. The new result for ∆G G from the charm channel is −0.57 ...
Eddington outflows probably regulate the growth of supermassive black holes (SMBHs) in active galactic nucleus (AGN). I show that effect of the Rayleigh–Taylor instability on these outflows means that SMBH masses are likely to be a factor of a few below the M–σ relation in AGN. This agrees with the suggestion by Batcheldor that the M–σ relation defines an upper limit to the black hole mass. I f...
