BACKGROUND Accurate and rapid diagnosis of bacterial arthritis is not always possible in unvaccinated (Streptococcus pneumoniae and Haemophilus influenzae type B) children in Iran. OBJECTIVES Searching the staphylococcal superantigen (entrotoxin A, B, C and TSST1) in synovial fluid of cases with inflammatory arthritis. PATIENTS AND METHODS This cross sectional study was implemented in the p...

Staphylococcal enterotoxin C (SEC) is a major cause of staphylococcal food poisoning in humans and plays role bovine mastitis. Staphylococcus aureus (S. aureus) benefits from competitive growth advantage under stress conditions encountered foods such as low pH. Therefore, understanding the stressors lactic acid on SEC production pivotal relevance to safety. However, stress-dependent cues their ...

Monoclonal antibodies from four clones (C5, C3, B2II, and B2I) directed against staphylococcal enterotoxin A were tested by the indirect enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay and double-gel immunodiffusion (micro-Ouchterlony) assay for the nature of heavy and light chain types. The reactivities of monoclonal antibodies were also tested by indirect enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay with various leve...

Identification of a new enterotoxin was accomplished by purification of the enterotoxin produced by staphylococcal strain FRI-326 and by preparation of specific antitoxin to the enterotoxin. Toxicity of the preparations was determined in rhesus monkeys, and specificity of the enterotoxin-antitoxin reaction was determined in gel diffusion plates. The enterotoxin was designated enterotoxin E.

Immunologic cross-reactivity between Streptococcus pyogenes type A exotoxin (erythrogenic toxin) and Staphylococcus aureus enterotoxins B and C1 was demonstrated by Ouchterlony double diffusion, Western immunoblot, and immunodot analyses. Specific antiserum to type A streptococcal exotoxin reacted more strongly with staphylococcal enterotoxin B than with enterotoxin C1. The reactivity of type A...

We investigated the biological properties of a novel staphylococcal enterotoxin-like putative toxin, staphylococcal enterotoxin-like toxin type R (SElR). Major histocompatibility complex class II molecules were required for T-cell stimulation by SElR. SElR stimulated T cells bearing receptors Vbeta 3, 11, 12, 13.2, and 14. These results suggested that SElR acts as a superantigen.

A variant enterotoxin gene, referred to as sezA+, has been identified. Staphylococcus aureus FRI1106, a staphylococcal enterotoxin type D producer (Sed+), contained HindIII fragments of 3.8 and 9.4 kilobase pairs (kbp) that hybridized in Southern blot analysis to a probe containing only staphylococcal enterotoxin type A structural gene sequences. Presumably, probe A-624 hybridized to the 9.4-kb...

A chromatofocusing procedure for the purification of staphylococcal enterotoxin D was developed. The purification included the removal of the toxic protein from culture supernatant fluids of Staphylococcus aureus 1151m by batch adsorption with CG-50 resin, chromatofocusing on Polybuffer Exchanger 94, and gel permeation chromatography on Sephacryl S-200. The purity of the staphylococcal enteroto...

BACKGROUND Rheumatoid arthritis (RA) is the most common chronic inflammatory disease of unknown etiology. In this regard, the role of bacterial superantigens (as an effective agent) were considered. OBJECTIVES This study aimed to assess staphylococcal enterotoxin E in the blood of patients with rheumatoid arthritis. PATIENTS AND METHODS A total of 83 blood samples of patients with RA were s...
