The key cytopathologies in the brains of Alzheimer's disease (AD) patients include mitochondrial dysfunction and energy hypometabolism, which are likely caused by the accumulation of small aggregates of amyloid-β (Aβ) peptides. Thus, targeting these two abnormalities of the AD brain may hold promising therapeutic value for delaying the onset of AD. In his paper, we discuss two potential approac...

One of the most significant abiotic factors that has a negative impact on wheat productivity globally is drought. To comprehend impacts drought and propose remedies, numerous studies are carried out various varieties. In this study, 50 µM methyl jasmonate (MeJA) was applied to tolerant Gün 91 sensitive Bezostaja cultivars they were exposed stress for 15 days. The responses MeJA application deve...

Understanding the molecular mechanisms of osmolyte protection in protein stability has proved to be challenging. In particular, little is known about the role of osmolytes in the structure of the unfolding transition state of a protein, the main determinant of its dynamics. We have developed an experimental protocol to directly probe the transition state of a protein in a range of osmolyte envi...

This study compared the protective effect of cold acclimation on tolerance in lotus (Nelumbo nucifera). The increased sprouting rate and leaf expansion by about 36% at 0 °C, could enhance levels stress related osmolytes including higher proline, soluble protein, sugar contents. electrolyte leakage lipid peroxidation level control samples significantly, but these indices did not change signific...

Osmolytes are low molecular weight organic molecules accumulated by organisms to assist proper protein folding, and to provide protection to the structural integrity of proteins under denaturing stress conditions. It is known that osmolyte-induced protein folding is brought by unfavorable interaction of osmolytes with the denatured/unfolded states. The interaction of osmolyte with the native st...

Osmolytes are accumulated intracellularly to offset the effects of osmotic stress and protect cellular proteins against denaturation. Because different taxa accumulate different osmolytes, they can also be used as "dietary biomarkers" to study foraging. Potential osmolyte biomarkers include glycine betaine, trimethylamine N-oxide (TMAO), homarine, dimethylsulfoniopropionate (DMSP), and the osmo...

We determined the added enthalpic and entropic contributions of protective osmolytes to the folding of a model peptide into its native beta-hairpin state. In contrast to entropically driven steric "crowding", this study shows that sugars and polyols can act as protective osmolytes by primarily diminishing the unfavourable enthalpic contribution to folding.

Scientists have identified turgor-based actuation as a fundamental mechanism in plant movements. Plant cell turgor is generated by water influx due to the osmolyte concentration gradient through the cell wall and the plasma membrane behaving as an osmotic barrier. Previous studies have focused on turgor modulation with respect to potassium chloride (KCl) concentration changes, although KCl is n...

Heat shock is considered an abiotic stress for plant growth, but the effects of heat shock on physiological responses of cucumber plant leaves with and without downy mildew disease are still not clear. In this study, cucumber seedlings were exposed to heat shock in greenhouses, and the responses of photosynthetic properties, carbohydrate metabolism, antioxidant enzyme activity, osmolytes, and d...
