In view of alleged antidiabetic potential, effect of the petroleum ether, methanol, and aqueous extracts of Terminalia catappa Linn (combretaceae) fruit, on fasting blood sugar levels and serum biochemical analysis in alloxan-induced diabetic rats were investigated. All the three extracts of Terminalia catappa produced a significant antidiabetic activity at dose levels 1/5 of their lethal doses...

OBJECTIVES Oral cancer is the fifth most frequent cancer worldwide and India has recorded the highest incidence (40-50%) of oral malignancy. This study is designed to investigate the effect of aqueous extract of Terminalia arjuna bark (TaBet) on circulatory lipid peroxidation and antioxidant status during 7,12-dimethylbenz[a]anthracene (DMBA)-induced hamster buccal pouch carcinogenesis. METHO...

To uncover the antioxidant and free radical scavenging activity, five different extracts of Terminalia arjuna bark were examined. In the present study, the free radical scavenging potential of five extracts of the bark of Terminalia arjuna was assessed by measuring its capability for scavenging 2, 2-diphenyl-1picrylhydrazyl (DPPH) radical, hydrogen peroxide radical, nitric oxide radicals (NO), ...

BACKGROUND Smoking, largely through increased oxidative stress, causes endothelial dysfunction which is an early key event in atherosclerosis. Smoking cessation and antioxidant vitamin therapy are shown to have beneficial role by restoring altered endothelial physiology. The present study was aimed to determine whether Terminalia arjuna, an Indian medicinal plant with potent antioxidant constit...

While separating two natural nano-sized triterpenic acids via bromolactonization, we serendipitously discovered that arjuna-bromolactone is an excellent gelator of various organic solvents. A simple and efficient method for the separation of two triterpenic acids and the gelation ability and solid state 1D-helical self-assembly of nano-sized arjuna-bromolactone are reported.

Metabolic syndrome (MS) is an emerging global health problem. Although studies highlighting its genetic, lipid, and cardiometabolic associations have been described in detail, the exact cause for these associations is not clear. The authors describe, in this study, the case of a patient who, along with his family members, had clinical evidence of MS. In addition, this patient also exhibited bet...
