There are conflicting reports concerning signal intensity changes in transient global amnesia (TGA) using diffusion weighted imaging (DWI). We prospectively analysed DWI signal intensity changes in TIA and TGA patients, and compared the clinical characteristics and risk factors of both groups. Using DWI and conventional T1 and T2 weighted turbo spin echo sequences, 28 patients with acute TGA (1...

Permanent waving treatments for hair have been popularly carried out for many decades. The chemical process occurring in perm treatments consisting of hair reduction and subsequent oxidation involves the reactions mainly concerning thiol (SH) and disulfide (SS). A permanent waving solution (PWS) is commonly used for chemical waving for hair styles, and the major ingredient of PWS is thioglycoli...

This study was carried out to establish a reference table of echocardiographic values for the left ventricle of simple d-transposition of the great arteries (d-TGA) and to determine at what age left ventricular dimensions in these patients become different from those of a normal population. Fifty-three patients with d-TGA and normal pulmonary pressure and 395 normal children ages 1 day to 10 ye...

BACKGROUND AND PURPOSE There is uncertainty concerning the etiology of transient global amnesia (TGA). Previous CT and MRI studies have indicated that permanent structural abnormality is rare in TGA. Diffusion-weighted (DW) MRI is very sensitive to early ischemic parenchymal changes and has recently demonstrated embolic infarction in the posterior cerebral artery territory in 2 TGA patients. We...

To evaluate if short (less than one hour) or recurrent, or both, episodes of transient global amnesia (TGA) have an epileptic origin or carry a subsequent risk of epilepsy a group of patients with these types of TGA attacks was studied. The group was selected from a prospective series of 103 patients with TGA. Sixteen patients had an episode lasting less than one hour, 13 had more than one epis...

Late-onset pulmonary arterial hypertension (PAH) is a rare but fatal complication in patients with childhood surgical repair of dextro-transposition of great arteries (D-TGA), especially with the Mustard and Senning procedures. The pathogenic mechanisms of PAH in patients with repaired D-TGA are not well understood and treatment is not standardized. In this manuscript, we present a case of late...

Transient global amnesia (TGA) is characterized by a sudden onset and by a typical resolution within several hours. Several precipitating events have been proposed: physical exertion, emotional experiences, etc. The aim of this paper was to present two cases of TGA triggered by sexual intercourse and to suggest a possible mechanism for the development of TGA. In both patients, clinical examinat...

BACKGROUND Existing in Permanent-wave solutions (PWS), thioglycolic acid (TGA) is widely used in hairdressing industry for its contribution to hair styling. However, the toxicity of TGA, especially its reproductive toxicity, gradually calls the attention of more and more researchers. METHOD In this work, xenopus oocytes were pretreated with different concentration of TGA, and then activated b...

OBJECTIVE To describe 3 patients with a history of transient global amnesia (TGA) who developed primary progressive aphasia (PPA). DESIGN Case series. SETTING Tertiary care center. PATIENTS The study included 3 patients who presented to the neurology clinic with language complaints. MAIN OUTCOME MEASURE Presence of recurrent TGA and PPA. RESULTS Three patients with a history of TGA we...

We present the case of an elderly male who was diagnosed with transient global amnesia (TGA), only to be diagnosed with B-cell lymphoma with central nervous system involvement a few weeks later. This is the first ever case reported in literature with lymphoma presenting as TGA. Literature review and pertinent points regarding high-yield imaging protocol for presumed TGA patients are discussed.
