[1] Many geologic observations suggest that the eastern portion of the Tibetan Plateau has expanded eastward and grown in height over the past 15-10 Ma, and other observations suggest that climate over the northwestern Indian subcontinent (“NW India”) became more arid between 11 and 7 Ma. We suggest that they are linked: higher terrain increased orographic precipitation over eastern Tibet, whic...
Serologic and molecular evidence indicates that peste des petits ruminants virus (PPRV) infection has emerged in goats and sheep in the Ngari region of southwestern Tibet, People's Republic of China. Phylogenetic analysis confirms that the PPRV strain from Tibet is classified as lineage 4 and is closely related to viruses currently circulating in neighboring countries of southern Asia.
BACKGROUND Tibet is especially vulnerable to climate change due to the relatively rapid rise of temperature over past decades. The effects on mortality and morbidity of extreme heat in Tibet have been examined in previous studies; no heat adaptation initiatives have yet been implemented. We estimated heat vulnerability of urban and rural populations in 73 Tibetan counties and identified potenti...
The area and elevation of the Tibetan Plateau over time has directly affected Asia's topography, the characteristics of the Asian monsoon, and modified global climate, but in ways that are poorly understood. Charting the uplift history is crucial for understanding the mechanisms that link elevation and climate irrespective of time and place. While some palaeoelevation data are available for sou...
Abstract: The Qinghai–Tibet power grid interconnection project is the first power transmission project with the highest altitude, longest transmission lines, longest distance running across the plateau frozen ground, and highest iron tower in the world. The risk evaluation on it can identify the overall risk level and key risk factors, which can reduce risk-induced loss and promote sustainable ...
Previously only one species of the genus Diostracus was known to occur in Tibet. Here the following two new species are added to the fauna of Tibet: Diostracusacutatus sp. n. and Diostracustibetensis sp. n. Their relationships with similar species are discussed. A key to the species of Diostracus from the Himalayas is presented.
We investigated Japanese encephalitis virus (JEV) prevalence in high-altitude regions of Tibet, China, by using standard assays to test mosquitoes, pigs, and humans. Results confirmed that JEV has spread to these areas. Disease prevention and control strategies should be used along with surveillance to limit spread of JEV in high-altitude regions of Tibet.
The spider family Mysmenidae is reported from Tibet for the first time. Two new species, Chanea voluta sp. n. (male and female) and Mysmena lulanga sp. n. (male and female) are found in eastern Tibet in high altitude. Morphological descriptions, diagnoses and comparative photos are provided for the two new species.
Two new Chelifera species, C. liuae sp. nov. from Sichuan and C. tibetensis sp. nov. from Tibet, are described. The genus Chelifera is recorded from Tibet for the first time. Cheliefera tibetensis is assigned to the C. rhombicercus-group. An updated key to the species of Chelifera from China is provided.
Nonequilibrium stationary states form the building blocks of more complicated nonequi-librium systems as they deene the transport coeecients appearing in the hydrody-namic equations. Recently, many connections have been made between the microscopic dynamical properties of such systems and the macroscopic transport. Although it is often diicult to visualise or understand the dynamics of systems ...
