Receptors encoded within the Natural Killer Cell (NKC) complex and Killer Immunoglobulin like (KIRs) genomic regions have been suggested to influence malaria pathogenesis and infection susceptibility. We have examined KIR locus in relation to risk of infection and disease in Tea tribes (TT) of Austro Asiatic affinity and Tibeto-Burman (TB) populations from malaria endemic regions of Assam. Cons...

The distribution of β-globin gene haplotypes was studied in 209 Amerindians from eight tribes of the Brazilian Amazon: Asurini from Xingú, Awá-Guajá, Parakanã, Urubú-Kaapór, Zoé, Kayapó (Xikrin from the Bacajá village), Katuena, and Tiriyó. Nine different haplotypes were found, two of which (n. 11 and 13) had not been previously identified in Brazilian indigenous populations. Haplotype 2 (+ -) ...

We report the phylogenetic utility of the nuclear gene encoding the long-wavelength opsin (LW Rh) for tribes of bees. Aligned nucleotide sequences were examined in multiple taxa from the four tribes comprising the corbiculate bees within the subfamily Apinae. Phylogenetic analyses of sequence variation in a 502-bp fragment (approx 40% of the coding region) strongly supported the monophyly of ea...

Salmonella enteritidis, serotype Horsham, identified rarely worldwide, was isolated from the stools of six American Indians with gastroenteritis. The patients were from separate tribes located in three geographically distinct villages. Although significant contact was demonstrated between ill individuals within two tribes, no common source for the organism has been identified.

S1 Fig. Original Fig 1 – Phylogenetic hypotheses (redrawn) of the relationships among the LT species flock and other representatives of the East African Radiation (EAR). Tribes with ambiguous placement are highlighted as follows: most ancient Tanganyika tribes (continuous line); Eretmodini (dashed line); haplochromine lineages (dotted line). A new genus and species of Lamprosomatinae, Cachiporra extremaglobosa Chamorro & Konstantinov, is described from Brazil. A new tribe, Cachiporrini, is proposed. The first phylogenetic analysis of Lamprosomatinae based on adult morphological caharacters is conducted. Comparisons are made among lamprosomatine tribes and genera. A key to tribes is provided.
