Two completely separate malignant melanomas of the choroid occurred in 1 eye containing 2 additional uveal naevi. Review of the literature disclosed 7 further patients with unilateral multicentric malignant melanomas of the choroid and 11 bilateral multicentric malignant melanomas of the uvea. General aspects of multicentric primary neoplasia are discussed and an interpretation is attempted.

An 81-year-old woman with good vision was followed up with the diagnosis of a minimally active melanoma. This tumour was eventually found to be a diffuse melanoma with extraocular extension. Prostaglandins-E were demonstrated in the aqueous humour, the anterior uvea, and the choroid of rabbits in which type III allergic reactions were produced by two different methods.
