Ionizing radiation offers clean and easily regulated way of initiating polymerization and crosslinking reactions, independent of the reaction temperature but only very few methods can be used for in-situ reaction monitoring. The advantages and limitations of electrical conductivity as a method for reaction monitoring are discussed on crosslinking of unsaturated polyester (UP) resin as an exampl...

The chemical crosslinking of modified nucleic acids via the Diels-Alder reaction is reported. For this purpose, 1,3-butadiene derived building blocks were incorporated into complementary oligodeoxynucleotides. Treatment of the obtained duplex with difunctional dienophiles results in the clean crosslinking of the two strands. Non-crosslinked adducts arising from a single Diels-Alder reaction of ...

Polylactic acid (PLA) was melt-blended with epoxy resin to study the effects of reaction on mechanical and thermal properties PLA. The addition 0.5% (wt/wt) PLA increased maximum tensile strength (57.5 MPa) 67 MPa, whereas 20% improved elongation at break 12%, due crosslinking caused by reaction. morphology PLA/epoxy blends showed nanoparticle dispersion in matrix that presented a smooth fractu...

Besides its growing impact on the Chemical fiber market, the amine Oxide process, employing a melt of N-methyl-morpholine-N-Oxide (NMMNO) as solvent for cellulose, is both a Stimulus to research in cellulose structure formation from Solution and a catalyst in getting People from fundamental and applied research together for joint effort [ 11. It is well known that cellulosic fibers of the ,,Lyo...

Introduction Mussel adhesive proteins (MAPs) are remarkable underwater adhesive materials which form tenacious bonds between certain marine organisms and the substrates upon which they reside. These proteins are secreted by the organisms as fluids which undergo a crosslinking or hardening reaction which leads to the formation of a solid adhesive plaque. One of the unique features of MAPs is the...

Biodegradable polyacrylates were produced by a series of novel copolymerization and/or crosslinking techniques using poly(vinyl alcohol) (PVA) moieties modified by the incorporation of olefinic structures. PVA was modified by a tosylation and/or detosylation reaction. The functionalized PVA was copolymerized and/or crosslinked with acrylic acid or its partially neutralized form to give crosslin...

In this work, the modifications promoted by alkaline hydrolysis and glutaraldehyde (GA) crosslinking on type I collagen found in porcine skin have been studied. Collagen matrices were obtained from the alkaline hydrolysis of porcine skin, with subsequent GA crosslinking in different concentrations and reaction times. The elastin content determination showed that independent of the treatment, el...

INTRODUCTION: The feasibility of using crosslinking reagent, e.g., the genipin or methylglyoxal, to enhance the biomechanical functions of the injured or degenerated intervertebral disc has been extensively investigated. Our previous study found that genipin could recover the disc dynamic properties of mild denatured disc; however, the recovery efficiency was degraded by fatigue loading. Genipi...

A simple self-crosslinking strategy, without the needs of a separate crosslinker or a catalyst, is reported here. The crosslinking drastically lowers the water swelling ratio (e.g., 5-10 folds reduction) and provides excellent solvent-resistance. The self-crosslinked membrane (DCL: 5.3%) shows the highest IEC-normalized hydroxide conductivity among all crosslinked HEMs reported.

Maleic acid (MA) has been explored to replace formaldehyde-based dimethylol dihydroxy ethylene urea (DMDHEU) for cotton anti-crease finishing. However, the resilience of treated fabrics was not satisfactorily improved. In this study, acryloyl malic acid (AMA) was synthesized and applied on fabrics as a novel crosslinking agent. The results showed that both crease recovery angle and whiteness in...
