"Soft" and "hard" are the two main market classes of wheat (Triticum aestivum L.) and are distinguished by expression of the Hardness gene. Friabilin, a marker protein for grain softness (Ha), consists of two proteins, puroindoline a and b (pinA and pinB, respectively). We previously demonstrated that a glycine to serine mutation in pinB is linked inseparably to grain hardness. Here, we report ...

Wheat plays an important role in our daily life and industrial production. Several computer vision approaches have been proposed for classifying wheat quality, but there were some methods focusing on the problem of cohesive wheats while image processing. In this paper, we designed a single kernel guide groove to separate wheats, which could simplify algorithm processing improve accuracy rate cl...

A general method based on variation in repeated nucleotide sequences was developed for the identification of diploid species most closely related to a specific genome of a polyploid species. The utility of this method was demonstrated by showing that Triticum speltoides is the most closely related extant species to both the B and G genomes of tetraploid wheats.

Trait-based breeding is essential to improve wheat yield, particularly when stress adaptation is targeted. A set of modern and underutilized wheat genotypes was examined in a 2-year field experiment with distinct seasonal water supply. Yield formation and drought response strategies were analyzed in relation to components of Passioura's yield-water framework based on phenological, morphological...

There is little information in the literature regarding North American varieties of spring wheat which are responsive to vernalization treatment. The same variety has been reported by different investigators to react positively or negatively to treatmenit. For example, VAN HOEK (3) obtained acceleration of maturity when springof wheat was vernalized, but treatmelnt of the same variety by GMELIN...

Climate change and slow yield gains pose a major threat to global wheat production. Underutilized genetic resources including landraces and wild relatives are key elements for developing high-yielding and climate-resilient wheat varieties. Landraces introduced into Mexico from Europe, also known as Creole wheats, are adapted to a wide range of climatic regimes and represent a unique genetic res...
