We study axially symmetric monopoles of both the SU(2) Yang-Mills-HiggsDilaton (YMHD) as well as of the SU(2) Einstein-Yang-Mills-Higgs-Dilaton (EYMHD) system. We find that equally to gravity, the presence of the dilaton field can render an attractive phase. We also study the influence of a massive dilaton on the attractive phase in the YMHD system.
We consider a spherically symmetric, static system of a Dirac particle interacting with classical gravity and an SU(2) Yang-Mills field. The corresponding EinsteinDirac-Yang/Mills equations are derived. Using numerical methods, we find different types of soliton-like solutions of these equations and discuss their properties. Some of these solutions are stable even for arbitrarily weak gravitati...
I give a summary of Section E of the sixth edition of the Conference Quark confinement and the hadron spectrum. Papers were presented on different subjects, from spectroscopy, including pentaquarks and hadron structure, to new physics effects (non commutative field theories, supersymmetry and extra dimensions) and the problem of color confinement, both in ordinary Yang-Mills models and in super...
From its inception in statistical physics to its role in the construction and in the development of the asymmetric Yang-Mills phase in quantum field theory, the notion of spontaneous broken symmetry permeates contemporary physics. This is reviewed with particular emphasis on the conceptual issues. Contribution to “Fifty years of Yang Mills theory”, editor G. ’t Hooft, World Scientific.
We study a stationary, spherically symmetric system of (2j + 1) massive Dirac particles, each having angular momentum j, j = 1, 2, . . ., in a classical gravitational and SU(2) Yang-Mills field. We show that for any black hole solution of the associated Einstein-Dirac-Yang/Mills equations, the spinors must vanish identically outside of the event horizon.
We present new exact solutions of the Einstein-Yang-Mills system. The solutions are described by a null Yang-Mills field in a Kundt spacetime. They generalize a previously known solution for a metric of pp wave type. The solutions are formally of Petrov type III.
We study domain walls in two different extensions of super Yang–Mills characterized by the absence of a logarithmic term in their effective superpotential. The models, defined by the usual gaugino condensate and an extra field Y , give different patterns of domain walls despite both leading to the same effective limit for heavy Y , i.e. the Veneziano–Yankielowicz effective Lagrangian of super Y...
We consider certain vacua of four-dimensional SU(N) Yang-Mills gauge theory with the same field content as the N = 4 supersymmetric Yang-Mills theory, resulting from potentials which break the N = 4 supersymmetry as well as its global SO(6) symmetry down to SO(3)×SO(3). We show that the theory behaves at intermediate scales as Yang-Mills theory on M × S L × S 2 R with magnetic fluxes on the ext...
We consider classical Yang-Mills theory with point sources and derive equations of motion for the coupled particle-field system. As an example, we discuss the special case of Yang-Mills theory coupled to point particles in (1þ 1) dimensions. We formulate the initial value problem for the system and describe several example solutions. VC 2011 American Association of Physics Teachers. [DOI: 10.11...
