The Kato-Katz (KK) method is a well-known method of fecal examination for helminthiases. Its diagnostic sensitivity was found very high for clonorchiasis. The present study evaluated the correlation of Clonorchis sinensis egg counts by the KK method with those by direct smear and formalin-ether (FE) technique. The egg counts obtained by the KK method (Y) were correlated with the counts by direc...

The KK.Cg-A (y) /J (KK-A (y) ) mouse strain is a previously described model of type 2 diabetes with renal impairment. In the present study, female KK-A (y) mice received an elevated fat content diet (24% of calories), and a cohort was uninephrectomized (Unx) to drive renal disease severity. Compared to KK-a/a controls, 26-week-old KK-A (y) mice had elevated HbA1c, insulin, leptin, triglycerides...

Let G be a locally compact, σ-compact group. We prove that the equivariant KK-theory, KK, is the universal category for functors from G-algebras to abelian groups which are stable, homotopy invariant and split-exact. This is a generalization of Higsons characterisation of (non-equivariant) KK-theory.

Ratios of coupling constants for these decays are compared with qq̄ predictions and Jaffe’s qq̄ model. In both models, the predicted ratio g(κ→ Kπ)/g(σ → ππ) is much too small. Also, for qq̄, the predicted ratio g(κ → Kη)/g(κ → Kπ) is much larger than observed. Both models fail for g(f0 →KK)/g (a0 →KK). This ratio requires that f0 has a dominantKK component. It arises naturally because the f0 pole...

We discuss Kaluza-Klein (KK) decomposition in 5-dimensional (5D) field theories with orbifold compactification. Kinetic terms localized at orbifold fixed points, which are inevitably present in any realistic model, modify the standard KK mass spectrum and interactions of KK modes. This, in turn, can significantly affect phenomenology of the orbifold models. As an example, we discuss gauge coupl...

We discuss the phenomenology of (1, 1)-mode adjoint scalars in the framework of two Universal Extra Dimensions. The Kaluza-Klein (KK) towers of these adjoint scalars arise in the 4-dimensional effective theory from the 6th component of the gauge fields after compactification. Adjoint scalars can have KK-number conserving as well as KK-number violating interactions. We calculate the KK-number vi...

A. The aim of this talk and the next is to explain two important aspects of equivariant Kasparov theory, especially for smooth manifolds: duality, and the topological description of equivariant KK-groups using equivariant correspondences. In the first talk we will review the basic definitions of KK-theory, including the Thom isomorphism. We then explain duality, which gives a way of redu...

We introduce the class Σk(d) of k-stellated (combinatorial) spheres of dimension d (0 ≤ k ≤ d+1) and compare and contrast it with the class Sk(d) (0 ≤ k ≤ d) of k-stacked homology d-spheres. We have Σ1(d) = S1(d), and Σk(d) ⊆ Sk(d) for d ≥ 2k− 1. However, for each k ≥ 2 there are k-stacked spheres which are not k-stellated. For d ≤ 2k− 2, the existence of k-stellated spheres which are not k-sta...
