We have found that phospholemman (PLM) associates with and modulates the gating of cardiac L-type calcium channels (Wang et al., Biophys J 98: 1149-1159, 2010). The short 17 amino acid extracellular NH(2)-terminal domain of PLM contains a highly conserved PFTYD sequence that defines it as a member of the FXYD family of ion transport regulators. Although we have learned a great deal about PLM-de...

BACKGROUND AND AIM OF THE WORK Many sarcoidosis patients suffer from fatigue and sleep disturbances. Recently, it was demonstrated that obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) is rather common in sarcoidosis. Moreover, sheet intolerance and painful legs are frequently reported in sarcoidosis patients. These symptoms might interfere with sleep quality. METHODS In order to determine the relationship betw...

Feeding trial was conducted on sixty day-old Anak broiler chicks of average weight of 204.11+3.29g for eight weeks to evaluate the effect of sun-dried paw-paw leaf meal (PLM) on their growth performance as well as proximate composition analysis on the PLM. The birds were assigned to four treatment diets comprising T1 (0% PLM), T2 (5% PLM), T3 (10% PLM) and T4 (15% PLM) in a completely randomize...

Phospholemman (PLM) belongs to the FXYD family of small ion transport regulators. When phosphorylated at Ser(68), PLM inhibits cardiac Na(+)/Ca(2+) exchanger (NCX1). We previously demonstrated that the cytoplasmic tail of PLM interacts with the proximal intracellular loop (residues 218-358), but not the transmembrane (residues 1-217 and 765-938) or Ca(2+)-binding (residues 371-508) domains, of ...

Phospholemman (PLM) phosphorylation mediates enhanced Na/K-ATPase (NKA) function during adrenergic stimulation of the heart. Multiple NKA isoforms exist, and their function/regulation may differ. We combined fluorescence resonance energy transfer (FRET) and functional measurements to investigate isoform specificity of the NKA-PLM interaction. FRET was measured as the increase in the donor fluor...

The treatment of sleep apnea with nasal continuous positive airway pressure (CPAP) occasionally has been associated with the appearance of periodic limb movement (PLM) disorder, but it has not been clear whether CPAP induces PLM, or whether the PLM is simply disguised until apnea is treated. We report the emergence of PLM after the inadvertent application of CPAP in a patient without sleep apnea.

PLM has become a major subject of research in the past decade. It includes research works in engineering fields, information technologies and human science. Dealing with the interactions of numerous experts in a common software environment, PLM presents major difficulties resulting from these interactions. The paper presents research works dealing with CAD and PLM data exchange. A system is dev...

The closed-loop product lifecycle management (PLM) system focuses on tracking and managing the information of the whole product lifecycle, with possible feedback of information to product lifecycle phases. It provides opportunities to reduce the inefficiency of lifecycle operations and gain competitiveness. Thanks to the advent of hardware and software related to product identification technolo...

To reveal the neural dynamics underlying biological motion processing, we introduced a novel golf-swing point-light motion (PLM) stimulus with an adaptation paradigm and measured event-related potentials (ERPs). In the adaptation phase, PLM and scrambled PLM (sPLM) stimuli were presented; a static point-lights stimulus was also presented as a control condition. In the subsequent test phase, PLM...

While having no antitumor effect per se, caffeine substantially enhanced the antitumor effects of the phleomycins PLM-CHP and PLM-PEP, and the bleomycins BLM-CHP and Blenoxane in rats carrying Walker 256 carcinosarcoma and/or mice carrying Ehrlich ascites tumor, even at doses of phleomycin and bleomycin below the minimum effective level. Positive but less conclusive results were also obtained w...
