This article derives the distribution of random matrix X associated with the transformation Y = X*X, such that Y has a Riesz distribution for real normed division algebras. Two versions of this distributions are proposed and some of their properties are studied.

Introducing the concept of the normalized duality mapping on normed linear space and normed algebra, we extend the usual definitions of the numerical range from one operator to two operators. In this note we study the convexity of these types of numerical ranges in normed algebras and linear spaces. We establish some Birkhoff-James orthogonality results in terms of the algebra numerical range V...

We investigate the completeness and completions of the normed algebras (D(1)(X), ‖ · ‖) for perfect, compact plane sets X. In particular, we construct a radially self-absorbing, compact plane set X such that the normed algebra (D(1)(X), ‖ · ‖) is not complete. This solves a question of Bland and Feinstein. We also prove that there are several classes of connected, compact plane sets X for which...

A mapping α from a normed space X into itself is called a Banach operator if there is a constant k such that 0≤ k < 1 and ‖α2(x)−α(x)‖ ≤ k‖α(x)−x‖ for all x ∈X. In this note we study some properties of Banach operators. Among other results we show that if α is a linear Banach operator on a normed space X, then N(α−1) = N((α−1)2), N(α−1)∩R(α−1)= (0) and if X is finite dimensional then X =N(α−1)⊕...
