Heat shock factor 1 (HSF1) is essential for protecting cells from protein-damaging stress associated with misfolded proteins and regulates the insulin-signaling pathway and aging. Here, we show that human HSF1 is inducibly acetylated at a critical residue that negatively regulates DNA binding activity. Activation of the deacetylase and longevity factor SIRT1 prolonged HSF1 binding to the heat s...
Various current trends such as ever growing population and accelerated aging effects have effectively promoted the growth of Wireless Body Area Network (WBAN). Being the specialized standard of WBAN, the burgeoning IEEE 802.15.6 is on its way to refinement and perfection. Since experiments are the foundation of research in WBAN that reproduce system operating patterns, yet existing platforms in...
Werner syndrome (WS) patients exhibit premature aging predominantly in mesenchyme-derived tissues, but not in neural lineages, a consequence of telomere dysfunction and accelerated senescence. The cause of this lineage-specific aging remains unknown. Here, we document that reprogramming of WS fibroblasts to pluripotency elongated telomere length and prevented telomere dysfunction. To obtain mec...
We report evidence for a significant increase of bulk dislocation density upon poling of polycrystalline BaTiO3. The synchrotron high-resolution x-ray-diffraction measurements yield a dislocation density on the order of 10/cm and an associated strain-energy increase of about 20 kJ/m. This implies that the application of an external poling field generates defects in the structure and increases t...
For hundreds of years, scientists have recognized that the human body is highly sensitive to the external environment. In the mid-1800s, Claude Bernard, who is credited with being among the first to develop and apply scientific methods of experimentation to the study of physiology, suggested that the external environment could alter the “milieu intérieur” (interior environment; Bernard, 1974), ...
THE GEOGRAPHY of money is changing. Once upon a time it was not inaccurate to think of monetary spaces in simple territorial terms. Many currencies existed, but for the most part each circulated separately within the political frontiers of a single nation-state. Each government was in charge of its own sanctioned money. Today, however, the world’s monetary landscape is being rapidly transformed...
In this paper we use a structural VAR model with block exogeneity to investigate if external shocks originating from the USA played a dominant role in influencing the macroeconomic fluctuations in East Asia during the period 1978-2007. The empirical results show a dynamic effect of external shocks, implying that, even though regional integration appears to be deepening and accelerating, especia...
We improved the approximation of the model of the wormhole generated physical universe constructed by Choudhury and Pendharkar. We show here that the negative pressure of the unphysical wormhole can generate the right physical condition to explain the correct sign of the deacceleration parameter q0. The negative sign of q0 implies an accelerating universe.
BACKGROUND Infection with human immunodeficiency virus type 1 (HIV) is associated with clinical symptoms of accelerated aging, as evidenced by the increased incidence and diversity of age-related illnesses at relatively young ages and supporting findings of organ and cellular pathologic analyses. But it has been difficult to detect an accelerated aging effect at a molecular level. METHODS Her...
