For a multicomponent competitive adsorption of furfural and phenolic compounds, a mathematical model was builtto describe the mass transfer kinetics in a fixed bed column with activated carbon. The effects of competitive adsorption equilibrium constant, axial dispersion, external mass transfer, and intraparticle diffusion resistance on the breakthrough curve were studied for weakly adsorbed com...

BACKGROUND Radix astragali mainly contains saponins, polysaccharides, flavonoids, amino acids and other chemical constituents of which total astragalosides have immunomodulatory, anti-viral, hepatoprotective, and gastric mucosa protective effects. OBJECTIVE To investigate the process conditions for extraction, purification and enrichment of total astragalosides by macroporous adsorption resin...

A numerical model for the adsorption kinetics of proteins on the walls of a microchannel has been developed using the finite element method (FEM) to address the coupling with diffusion phenomena in the restricted microchannel volume. Time evolutions of the concentration of one species are given, both in solution and on the microchannel walls. The model illustrates the adsorption limitation some...

The sorption of copper ions onto natural bamboo sawdust with cellulose-lignin polymeric structure strongly depends on pH. The adsorption capacity for copper ions increases as increasing pH and copper loadings. The fitting of copper pH boundary curve by NEM surface complexation models shows that: three-sites model including the ion exchange reaction of permanent charge fits better than two-sites...

Thermodynamic analysis of simultaneous and sequential adsorption of crystal violet (CV) and 2-naphthol adsorption on montmorillonite has been conducted, and the changes of microstructure of the clay after adsorption were investigated using X-ray diffraction (XRD). The basal spacing and structural order of CV and 2-naphthol adsorbed montmorillonites varied with different CV loadings. In principl...

For the first time, we give a fundamental understanding of the effect of borate-modified nanodiamond on propane oxidative dehydrogenation reaction. Upon increasing the loading amount of borate on the carbon surface, the propene selectivity shows a volcanic curve. The adsorption sites of borate at different loading amounts are thoroughly considered.

the modeling of kinetic and isotherm curves acquired in adsorption of polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (pahs) as a model compound (phenanthrene) on activated carbons in the organic solvent. all the runs were carried out in a batch system at atmospheric pressure, process temperature of 24±2°c, and using the 100 ml phenanthrene in cyclohexan. this experimental work was mainly focused on the study...

The Impedance analysis technique complemented with curve fitting software was used to monitor changes in film properties of Thickness Shear Mode (TSM) resonator on vapour exposure. The approach demonstrates how sensor selectivity can be achieved through unique changes in film viscosity caused by organic vapour adsorption.

BACKGROUND The aim of this study was to enhance the bioavailability of fenofibrate, a poorly water-soluble drug, using a melt-adsorption method with supercritical CO(2). METHODS Fenofibrate was loaded onto Neusilin(®) UFL2 at different weight ratios of fenofibrate to Neusilin UFL2 by melt-adsorption using supercritical CO(2). For comparison, fenofibrate-loaded Neusilin UFL2 was prepared by so...

The role of micropore size and N-doping in CO2 capture by microporous carbons has been investigated by analyzing the CO2 adsorption properties of two types of activated carbons with analogous textural properties: (a) N-free carbon microspheres and (b) N-doped carbon microspheres. Both materials exhibit a porosity made up exclusively of micropores ranging in size between <0.6 nm in the case of t...
