We present a model to describe the collective motion of barchan dunes in a field. Our model is able to reproduce the observation that a typical dune stays confined within a stripe. We also obtain some of the pattern structures which ressemble those observed from aerial photos which we do analyse and compare with the specific field of Laâyounne.

Digital aerial cameras have replaced analog film cameras. An information contents corresponding to aerial photos up to 2010 was only possible with digital system cameras as Vexcel Ultracam and Z/I Imaging DMC or line scanning cameras as Leica Geosystems ADS80 or Jena Optronic JAS-150. Now with very large size CCDs the panchromatic band of the DMC II has between 140 and 256 Mega pixels from one ...

The Autonomous Vehicle Systems Lab at Kansas State University has developed an unmanned aerial vehicle capability for inexpensively performing aerial surveys. Bundle Adjustment (BA) is used in the extraction of terrain information from these aerial surveys. However, the inexpensive, lightweight inertial navigation system on the UAV does not give good initial estimates of the camera poses for th...

[1] We measure the displacement field resulting from the 1975–1984 Krafla rifting crisis, NE Iceland, using optical image correlation. Images are processed using the COSI-Corr software package. Surface extension is accommodated on normal faults and fissures which bound the rift zone, in response to dike injection at depth. Correlation of declassified KH-9 spy and SPOT5 satellite images reveals ...

This paper develops a model for automated matching of vehicles between aerial photos. We exploit the overlap from frame-to-frame in a sequence of aerial photos. The problem, in essence, is to determine if vehicles A, B, C, . . . in one photo, match vehicles X, Y, and Z in a temporally lagged second photo. The method is specifically applied to large trucks (tractor–trailer combinations). If a ma...

The traditional mapping on digital aerial photos and elevation models has its limits at steep slopes where the surface is only very sparsely sampled even in high resolution data sets. As a consequence, there is too few information available to perform a detailed mapping. In this paper we present a framework for augmenting terrain data with additional photos and show how to utilize this addition...

The planning of any engineering project requires information on land use, topography, soils, drainage, transportation, urban de velopment, and many other factors before actual location and design can be accomplished or field surveys undertaken. To obtain this preliminary information engineers surveyors, and planning com missions need maps. They need planimetric maps showing land use, or they ...
