This paper reports on the ideas and results of the First International Workshop on Aesthetic Intelligence (AxI’11) held as a satellite workshop during the International Joint Conference on Ambient Intelligence (AmI’11).

For any field k and integers n ≥ 1, d ≥ 3, with (n, d) not equal to (1, 3) or (2, 4), we exhibit a smooth hypersurface X over k of degree d in Pn+1 such that X has no non-trivial automorphisms over k. For (n, d) = (2, 4), we find X such that X has no non-trivial automorphisms induced by an automorphism of the ambient Pn+1.

This editorial presents advances on Human-centred Ambient Intelligence applications which take into account cognitive issues when modelling users (i.e. stress, attention disorders), and learn users’ activities/preferences and adapt to them (i.e. at home, driving a car). These papers also show AmI applications in health and education, which make them even more valuable for the general society.

This text attempts to describe an imagined future of ambient intelligence. It assumes that one day most of the current issues within ambient intelligence will be solved and that a second order ambient intelligence will be formulated, one with new research agendas. It describes several topics and ideas that might be part of this agenda and surmises on the prerequisites for this change.
