In this paper we further study links between concentration of measure in topological transformation groups, existence of fixed points, and Ramsey-type theorems for metric spaces. We prove that whenever the group Iso (U) of isometries of Urysohn’s universal complete separable metric space U, equipped with the compact-open topology, acts upon an arbitrary compact space, it has a fixed point. The ...

Let  and  be Banach algebras, ,  and . We define an -product on  which is a strongly splitting extension of  by . We show that these products form a large class of Banach algebras which contains all module extensions and triangular Banach algebras. Then we consider spectrum, Arens regularity, amenability and weak amenability of these products.

This paper studies the representation of a non-negative polynomial f on a non-compact semi-algebraic set K modulo its KKT (Karush-KuhnTucker) ideal. Under the assumption that f satisfies the boundary Hessian conditions (BHC) at each zero of f in K; we show that f can be represented as a sum of squares (SOS) of real polynomials modulo its KKT ideal if f ≥ 0 on K.

Let A be a Banach algebra. We study those closed ideals I of A for which the first cohomology group of A with coefficients in I is trivial; i.e. H(A, I) = {0}. We investigate such closed ideals when A is weakly amenable or biflat. Also we give some hereditary properties of ideal amenability.

The concept of amenability for Banach algebras was introduced by Johnson in 1972 [6]. Several modifications of this notion, such as approximate amenability and pseudo-amenability, were introduced in [2] and [4]. In the current paper we investigate the pseudo-amenability of Brandt semigroup algebras. It was shown in [2] and [4] that for the group algebra L(G), amenability, approximate amenabilit...

A complete classification is obtained for all second-order linear recurring sequences uniformly distributed modulo an ideal of a Dedekind domain.

Locally extended affine Lie algebras were introduced by Morita and Yoshii in [J. Algebra 301(1) (2006), 59-81] as a natural generalization of extended affine Lie algebras. After that, various generalizations of these Lie algebras have been investigated by others. It is known that a locally extended affine Lie algebra can be recovered from its centerless core, i.e., the ideal generated by weight...

In the present paper, the concepts of module (uniform) approximate amenability and contractibility of Banach algebras that are modules over another Banach algebra, are introduced. The general theory is developed and some hereditary properties are given. In analogy with the Banach algebraic approximate amenability, it is shown that module approximate amenability and contractibility are the same ...

In 1982 Richard P. Stanley conjectured that any finitely generated Zn-graded module M over a finitely generated Nn-graded K-algebra R can be decomposed as a direct sum M = ⊕t i=1 νi Si of finitely many free modules νi Si which have to satisfy some additional conditions. Besides homogeneity conditions the most important restriction is that the Si have to be subalgebras of R of dimension at least...

Abstract We study the existence and construction of very small formulations for disjunctive constraints in optimization problems: that is, formulations that use very few integer variables and extra constraints. To accomplish this, we present a novel mixed-integer branching formulation framework, which preserves many of the favorable algorithmic properties of a traditional mixed-integer programm...
