A comprehensive study was performed of various types aluminum-containing raw materials and their effect on glass formation during smelting borosilicate glasses for type-E fiber. It is shown that use non-metallurgical alumina, as compared with metallurgical disthene-sillimanite concentrate, kaolin, a savings energy resources processes from 2.64 to 16.30% obtains.
Erbium doped bismuth borosilicate (BBS) glasses, possessing the broadest 1.55 μm near infrared (NIR) emission band among oxide glasses, stand out as excellent fiber material for optical fiber amplifiers. In this work, we demonstrate that both broadened and enhanced NIR emission of Er(3+) can be obtained by sensibly combining the effects such as mixed glass former effect, phonon-assisted energy ...

Stress corrosion cracking is a well-known phenomenon in oxide glasses. However, how amorphous phase separation (APS) alters stress cracking, and the overall mechanical response of an glass less known literature. APS dominant feature concerning many multicomponent systems, particularly ternary sodium borosilicate (SBN) systems. Its three constituent oxides have significant industrial relevance, ...
This study examines the incorporation of TiO2 into sodium borosilicate glasses and its effect on formation glassy crystalline microphases. Glasses in composition range: 7Na2O–23B2O3–(70 - X)SiO2–XTiO2 (where X = 0–14.6 mol.% TiO2) which exhibit phase separation were investigated. Raman studies confirm two different coordinations depending molar content TiO2. Thermal properties are unaffected by...
