We report here the draft genome sequence of a Dyella-like bacterium (DLB) isolated from Hyalesthes obsoletus, the insect vector of the uncultivable mollicute bacterium "Candidatus Phytoplasma." This isolate inhibits Spiroplasma melliferum, a cultivable mollicute. The draft genome of DLB consists of 4,196,214 bp, with a 68.6% G+C content, and 3,757 genes were predicted.

Flavescence dorée (FD) is a threat for wine production in the vineyard landscape of Piemonte, Langhe-Roero and Monferrato, Italy. Spread of the disease is dependent on complex interactions between insect, plant and phytoplasma. In the Piemonte region, wine production is based on local cultivars. The role of six local grapevine varieties as a source of inoculum for the vector Scaphoideus titanus...

Introduetion Apple proliferation (AP) is one of the most economically important phytoplasmal diseases in Europe. It seriously impairs fruit size, yield, and vigor of the trees. AP was first reported in northern Italy (Rui et al., 1950). In the following decades, the occurrence of AP was reported from most European countries. Due to its transmissibility by grafting, the disease was initially tho...

Phytoplasmas are unculturable plant-pathogenic bacteria causing devastating damage to agricultural production worldwide. Here, we report the draft genome sequence of "Candidatus Phytoplasma asteris" strain OY-V. Most of the known virulence factors and host-interacting proteins were conserved in OY-V. This genome furthers our understanding of genetic diversity and pathogenicity of phytoplasmas.

"Candidatus Berkiella cookevillensis" and "Candidatus Berkiella aquae" are obligate intranuclear endosymbionts of freshwater amoebae. Here, we present the draft genome sequences of these two bacteria, with total sizes of 2,990,361 bp and 3,626,027 bp, respectively.

Phytoplasmas ('Candidatus Phytoplasma' spp.) are insect-vectored bacteria that infect a wide variety of plants, including many agriculturally important species. The infections can cause devastating yield losses by inducing morphological changes that dramatically alter inflorescence development. Detection of phytoplasma infection typically utilizes sequences located within the 16S-23S rRNA-encod...

Mobile genetic elements have impacted biological evolution across all studied organisms, but evidence for a role in evolutionary emergence of an entire phylogenetic clade has not been forthcoming. We suggest that mobile element predation played a formative role in emergence of the phytoplasma clade. Phytoplasmas are cell wall-less bacteria that cause numerous diseases in plants. Phylogenetic an...

in 2010- 2012 surveys, witches'- boom disease of tomato was observed in borazjan area (bushehr province, iran). agent of the disease was transmitted from tomato to tomato and eggplant by grafting and to madagascar periwinkle via dodder inoculation, inducing phytoplasma-type symptoms in inoculated plants. presence of phytoplasma in naturally affected tomatoes and all symptomatic graft and dodder...

The confirmation of the presence 16SrXXII-B phytoplasmas associated with coconut lethal yellowing disease in Ghana and 16SrIV Caribbean (Jamaica, Cuba, Mexico) were basis to study alternative plant species potential insect vectors this economically relevant carried out by TROPICSAFE project started 2017. In South Africa grapevine yellows ‘Candidatus Phytoplasma asteris’, (subgroup 16SrI-B) tran...
