After observations of cloudiness in the perfusion circuit at open intracardiac operations, laboratory experiments showed a precipitate in a Hartmann's solution (compound sodium lactate solution, Ringer-lactate) and sodium bicarbonate based priming fluid used for cardiopulmonary bypass. The precipitate was found to consist of calcium carbonate crystals. The crystals were not dissolved by adding ...

Recently, Alkaline Polymer Electrolyte Membrane Fuel Cells (APEMFCs) have been attracting worldwide attention mainly due to the prospect of using non–platinum–group metal catalysts. In addition, there is growing evidence that these fuel cells can operate with the presence of carbonate. This mini review will introduce the state–of–the–art in understanding of alkaline anion–exchange membranes (AA...

Assuming the possible scenario ICCP RCP8.5, by 2100, the pH of seawater in Hengam coral reef in the Persian Gulf will decrease by 0.46 compared to 1880 (to less than 7.72). Total dissolved inorganic carbon will increase from 2006 to 2263 µmol/kg. The concentration of bicarbonate ions will increase by 24% and the carbonate ions will decrease by 51%. The saturation of calcium carbonate in seawate...

We have developed a model permitting the control of the hemodialysis patient status. We have represented the functioning of each body compartment by a set of differential equations that express the mass balance of the carbonate and bicarbonate concentrations in each one. Experimental data from bibliography were analyzed and compared to our calculus. Results were well satisfying.

Increasing atmospheric carbon dioxide (CO2) through human activities and invasion of anthropogenic CO2 into the surface ocean alters the seawater carbonate chemistry, increasing CO2 and bicarbonate (HCO − 3 ) at the expense of carbonate ion (CO 3 ) concentrations. This redistribution in the dissolved inorganic carbon (DIC) pool decreases pH and carbonate saturation state (). Several components...

Hydrological studies were made for 6 months covering monsoon, summer and transition periods in a reservoir, chiefly to understand the plankton productivity. The physical factors like temperature, light, pH and chemical factors like dissolved O , CO , carbonate, bicarbonate, chloride, nitrate, phosphate, sulphate, calcium, 2 2 magnesium, sodium and potassium were estimated.

Reaction of anilines, primary and secondary aliphatic amines with cyclopropylboronic acid in dichloroethane in the presence of Cu(OAc)(2) (1 equiv.), 2,2'-bipyridine (1 equiv.) and sodium carbonate or sodium bicarbonate (2 equiv.) under air atmosphere afforded the corresponding N-cyclopropyl derivatives in good to excellent yields.

A hyperpolarization technique using carbonate precursors of biocompatible molecules was found to yield high concentrations of hyperpolarized (13)C bicarbonate in solution. This approach enabled large signal gains for low-toxicity hyperpolarized (13)C pH imaging in a phantom and in vivo in a murine model of prostate cancer.
