The hickory genus (Carya) contains ca. 17 species distributed in subtropical and tropical regions of eastern Asia and subtropical to temperate regions of eastern North America. Previously, the phylogenetic relationships between eastern Asian and eastern North American species of Carya were not fully confirmed even with an extensive sampling, biogeographic and diversification patterns had thus n...

Pecan is an important horticultural nut crop originally from North America and now widely cultivated in China for its high ecological, ornamental and economic value. Currently, there are over one hundred cultivars grown in China, including introduced American cultivars and Chinese seedling breeding cultivars. Molecular markers were used to assess the genetic diversity of these cultivars and to ...

Phytochemical investigations of the root bark of Juglans cathayensis DODE. led to the isolation of three new naphthalenyl glycosides, Jugnaphthalenoside A-C (1-3). Their structures were elucidated on the basis of extensive analysis of spectroscopic data. The cytotoxicities of the three new compounds were also evaluated.

Phylogenetic analyses of extant species of Juglans (Juglandaceae) with the New and Old World distributions were performed using five cpDNA intergenic spacer (IGS) sequences (trnT-trnF, psbA-trnH, atpB-rbcL, trnV-16S rRNA, and trnS-trnfM) to elucidate the origin, diversification, historical biogeography, and evolutionary relationships within the genus. Overall, 3848 characters were sampled, yiel...

Genetic relationships were studied among four taxa in the genus Chaenomeles using isozyme analysis. The band patterns obtained with six polymorphic isozyme systems provided 108 reliable markers, which were scored as unordered multistate traits. A cluster analysis as well as a multidimensional scaling analysis grouped the taxa in agreement with previously published results obtained with RAPD (ra...
