Infrared reflection absorption spectroscopy (IRRAS) was used to investigate carbon monoxide (CO) adsorption on sub-monolayer (ML)-thick Fe deposited Pt(111). The CO exposure to a clean Pt(111) surface at room temperature yielded linear-bonded and bridgebonded CO-Pt bands at 2090 and 1850 cm. The CO-Pt band intensities decreased steeply with increasing Fe thickness. For a 1-ML-thick-Fe/Pt surfac...

NifB-co, an Fe-S cluster produced by the enzyme NifB, is an intermediate on the biosynthetic pathway to the iron molybdenum cofactor (FeMo-co) of nitrogenase. We have used Fe K-edge extended X-ray absorption fine structure (EXAFS) spectroscopy together with (57)Fe nuclear resonance vibrational spectroscopy (NRVS) to probe the structure of NifB-co while bound to the NifX protein from Azotobacter...

Bu4N[Fe(CO)3(NO)] displays unique catalytic properties in electron-transfer catalysis such as in allylic substitutions, hydrosilylation, transesterifications, or carbene transfer chemistry. Herein we present a detailed spectroelectrochemical investigation of this complex that unravels an interesting electrochemical-chemical transformation in which two parts of [Fe(CO)3(NO)](-) are oxidized and ...

The new iron carbonyl cyanide trans-[Fe(CN)(2)(CO)(3)](2)(-), [2](2)(-), forms in high yield via photosubstitution of Fe(CO)(5) with 2 equiv of Et(4)NCN. Protonation of [2](2)(-) generated [HFe(CN)(2)(CO)(3)](-), [2H](-), the first H-Fe-CN-CO species. Further protonation gives dihydrogen. This simple system provides insights into hydrogen evolution by the hydrogenase enzymes, which also feature...

Reaction of Fe(NCS)2 and Co(NCS)2 with 2-methylpyrazine in different molar ratios and solvents at room temperature leads to the formation of five new coordination compounds of composition M(NCS)2(2-methylpyrazine)2(H2O)2 (M = Fe (1-Fe) , Co (1-Co)), Co(NCS)2(2-methylpyrazine)2(CH3OH)2 (2-Co) and Co(NCS)2(2-methylpyrazine)4·2-methylpyrazine solvate (3-Co). In all of these compounds, discrete com...

Proposed electrocatalytic proton reduction intermediates of hydrogenase mimics were synthesized, observed, and studied computationally. A new mechanism for H(2) generation appears to involve Fe(2)(CO)(6)(1,2-S(2)C(6)H(4)) (3), the dianions {[1,2-S(2)C(6)H(4)][Fe(CO)(3)(μ-CO)Fe(CO)(2)](2-) (3(2-)), the bridging hydride {[1,2-S(2)C(6)H(4)][Fe(CO)(3)(μ-CO)(μ-H)Fe(CO)(2)]}(-), 3H(-)(bridging), and ...

The reaction of cyanide, carbon monoxide, and ferrous derivatives led to the isolation of three products, trans- and cis-[Fe(CN)(4)(CO)(2)](2)(-) and [Fe(CN)(5)(CO)](3)(-), the first two of which were characterized by single-crystal X-ray diffraction. The new compounds show self-consistent IR, (13)C NMR, and mass spectroscopic properties. The reaction of trans-[Fe(CN)(4)(CO)(2)](2)(-) with Et(4...

This study investigated the joint properties of Fe-Pt alloy laser-welded to Co-Cr alloy. Cast plates (0.5 x 3.0 x 10 mm) were prepared with Fe-Pt and Co-Cr alloys. Fe-Pt plates were butted against Co-Cr plates and laser-welded using Nd:YAG laser. Control and homogeneously welded specimens were also prepared. Laser welding was performed with and without argon shielding. Tensile testing was condu...

The structural, electronic and magnetic properties of Zn0.95Co0.05O, Zn0.95Fe0.05O and Zn0.90Fe0.05Co0.05O nanoparticles prepared by a sol-gel method are presented and discussed. Xray diffraction and optical analysis indicated that high spin Co ions substitute for the Zn ions in tetrahedral sites. Fe Mössbauer spectroscopy showed the presence of isolated paramagnetic Fe ions in both Fe doped an...

in this paper, labo3 perovskite type catalyst formulations were prepared by sol-gel auto combustion method using citric acid as the fuel. activity of catalysts was tested in catalytic oxidation of toluene as a model of volatile organic compounds. lacoo3 perovskite formulation showed the highest activity among labo3 (fe, mn and co) perovskite catalysts. so, lacoo3 perovskite based catalyst was s...
