In turbulent suspensions, collision rates determine how rapidly particles coalesce or react with each other. To determine the collision rate, many numerical studies rely on the ghost collision approximation (GCA), which simply records how often pairs of point particles come within a threshold distance. In many applications, the suspended particles stick (or in the case of liquid droplets, coale...

Previous research (Andersen & Kim, 2001) has shown that a linear trajectory collision event (i.e., a collision between a moving object and an observer) is specified by objects that expand and maintain a constant bearing (the object location remains constant in the visual field). In the present study, we examined the optical information for detecting a collision event when the trajectory was of ...

one of the most valid and efficient models of long rod projectile penetration in homogeneous targets is tate and alekseevskii’s (a&t;) model. based on tate’s model, the present research tries to calculate the optimum speeds to achieve the maximum penetration depth in the homogeneous targets. the proposed collision speed-penetration depth diagrams are developed using tate’s model. in this way, v...

An important property of a hash function is the performance. We study fast iterated hash functions based on block ciphers. These hash functions and their compression functions are analyzed in the standard black-box model. We show an upper bound on rate of any collision resistant hash function. In addition, we improve known bound on the rate of collision resistant compression functions.

Mitigation of anthropogenic climate change involves deployments of renewable energy worldwide, including wind farms, which can pose a significant collision risk to volant animals. Most studies into the collision risk between species and wind turbines, however, have taken place in industrialized countries. Potential effects for many locations and species therefore remain unclear. To redress this...

Collision detection is a fundamental geometric tool for samplingbased motion planners. On the contrary, collision prediction for the scenarios that obstacle’s motion is unknown is still in its infancy. This paper proposes a new approach to predict collision by assuming that obstacles are adversarial. Our new tool advances collision prediction beyond the translational and disc robots; arbitrary ...

Dedicated short-range communication (DSRC) has been used in prototyped vehicles to test vehicle-to-vehicle communication for collision avoidance. However, there is little study on how collision avoidance software should behave to best mitigate accident collisions. In this paper, we analyse the timing of events and how they influence software-based collision avoidance strategies. We have found t...
