The objective of the study was to determine if prophylactic ankle bracing worn by females during landings produces abnormal lower extremity mechanics. Angular kinematic and ground reaction force (GRF) data were obtained for 16 athletically experienced females who performed brace and no-brace drop landings. The brace condition displayed reduced in/external rotation an...

In English text, independent clauses should be demarcated with full-stops (periods), or linked together with conjunctions. Non-native speakers are often prone to linking them improperly with commas instead of conjunctions, producing comma splices. This paper describes a method to detect comma splices using Conditional Random Fields (CRF), with features derived from parse tree patterns. In exper...

The roles of the protein-serine/threonine kinase, Akt1, in signaling pathways associated with cell motility and extracellular matrix invasion were examined in the immortalized mouse mammary epithelial cell line, COMMA-1D. COMMA-1D cells were engineered to express the avian leukosis subtype A receptor, tv-a, to permit infection by recombinant avian leukosis virus produced by the replication-comp...

This paper describes research in using the Brill tagger (Brill 94,95) to learn to identify incorrect commas in Danish. Trained on a part-of-speech tagged corpus of 600,000 words, the system identifies incorrect commas with a precision of 91% and a recall of 77%. The system was developed by randomly inserting commas in a text, which were tagged as incorrect, while the original commas were tagged...

We study the matter part of the algebra of open string fields using the 3-string vertex over the sliver state, which we call “comma vertex”. By generalizing this comma vertex to the N -string overlap, we obtain a closed form of the Neumann coefficients in the N -string vertex and discuss its relation to the oscillator representation of wedge states.
