where f is a continuous function of compact support onGwith values in V . This is not quite a trivial matter. If V is assumed to be complete, a definition by Riemann sums works quite well, but this is an unnecessarily strong requirement. The natural condition on V seems to be that it be quasi-complete, a somewhat technical but nonetheless valuable condition. Continuous representations of a loca...

In this note, we will show that the fundamental group of any negatively δ-pinched (δ > 14) manifold can’t be the fundamental group of a quasi-compact Kähler manifold. As a consequence of our proof, we also show that any nonuniform lattice in F4(−20) cannot be the fundamental group of a quasi-compact Kähler manifold. The corresponding result for uniform lattices was proved by Carlson and Hernánd...
We give a complete characterization of the class of quasi-compact morphisms of schemes that are stable effective descent morphisms for the SCHEMESindexed category given by quasi-coherent sheaves of modules.
On Kähler manifolds, there exist deep relationships between holomorphic and harmonic objects, between algebraic data and analytic variational principles. For example, through the work of Narasimhan-Seshadri [NS], Donaldson [D1, D2, D3] and Uhlenbeck-Yau [UY] we know that an irreducible holomorphic bundle on a compact Kähler manifold X possesses a Hermite-Einstein (H-E) metric if and only if it ...
Let A be a C *-algebra. Let A ⊗ A be the minimal C *-tensor product of A with itself and let M (A ⊗ A) be the multiplier algebra of A ⊗ A. A comultiplication on A is a non-degenerate *-homomorphism ∆ : A → M (A ⊗ A) satisfying the coassociativity law (∆ ⊗ ι)∆ = (ι ⊗ ∆)∆ where ι is the identity map and where ∆ ⊗ ι and ι ⊗ ∆ are the unique extensions to M (A ⊗ A) of the obvious maps on A ⊗ A. We ...
The classical theorems of Riesz [l] on compact operators have been extended by Leray [2] and Williamson [3] to the context of topological linear spaces. Ringrose [4] has shown that if an operator on such a space is compact, the square of its adjoint is also compact, where the topology on the dual space is that of uniform convergence on bounded sets. Thus if an operator is continuous and some po...
We construct a quasi-Banach space which cannot be given an equivalent plurisubharmonic quasi-norm, but such that it has a quotient by a onedimensional space which is a Banach space. We then use this example to construct a compact convex set in a quasi-Banach space which cannot be atfinely embedded into the space L0 of all measurable functions.
We investigate some basic descriptive set theory for countably based completely quasi-metrizable topological spaces, which we refer to as quasi-Polish spaces. These spaces naturally generalize much of the classical descriptive set theory of Polish spaces to the non-Hausdorff setting. We show that a subspace of a quasi-Polish space is quasi-Polish if and only if it is Π2 in the Borel hierarchy. ...
For a locally quasi-convex topological abelian group (G, τ), we study the poset C (G, τ) of all locally quasi-convex topologies on G that are compatible with τ (i.e., have the same dual as (G, τ)) ordered by inclusion. Obviously, this poset has always a bottom element, namely the weak topology σ(G, Ĝ). Whether it has also a top element is an open question. We study both quantitative aspects of ...
