The combination of a giant coronary aneurysm with multiple coronary aneurysms in adults is an extremely rare entity--especially in atherosclerotic patients, since it is most commonly associated with Kawasaki disease in children. We report an interesting case of a 59-year-old male patient with multiple atherosclerotic aneurysms of the left coronary system and a giant aneurysm of the right corona...

Coronary artery aneurysm is a rare congenital or acquired anomaly. The commonest location of coronary artery aneurysms is the right coronary artery and they are found slightly more often in males. We report an unusual case of multiple and extremely large aneurysms, therefore potentially at risk of rupture or thrombosis.

BACKGROUND The inflammatory mediators play an important role in the progression of coronary vasculitis in Kawasaki disease (KD), but effects of KD serum including inflammatory mediators on endothelial cells remain unknown. We hypothesized that serum activity to stimulate in vitro human umbilical vein endothelial cells (HUVEC) tube formation might be impaired in KD. METHODS AND RESULTS Serum f...

Purpose Kawasaki Disease is the most common vasculitis of childhood, and carries considerable morbidity with risk of development of coronary artery aneurysms. Serological predictors of the development of coronary artery aneurysms have not yet been found. FSTL-1 is a proinflammatory protein which is produced by mesenchymal tissue, including cardiac myocytes, and has been found to be elevated in ...

Background: Kawasaki disease (KD) is an acute vasculitis in children. Eosinophilia, a reflection of the host's immune response that can cause tissue damage, has been associated with KD, with eosinophils preferentially accumulating in the microvasculature. In early-stage Kawasaki disease (KD), lesions (perivasculitis and vasculitis) first form in the microvessels, which can then extend to the la...

Coronary artery aneurysms (CAAs) are rare and their management is controversial. Their incidence varies from 1,5% to 5% of the coronary angiographies, with predilection of the right coronary artery. Unruptured coronary aneurysms are often silent and may remain undiagnosed. The etiology can be either congenital or acquired. We describe a case of a left anterior descending artery (LAD) aneurysm t...

OBJECTIVES This study sought to assess the endothelial function of long-term coronary artery lesions in patients with Kawasaki disease (KD). BACKGROUND The vascular function of the coronary arteries in children with long-term KD remains uncertain. We report our findings of the vascular response of the coronary arteries to intracoronary injection of acetylcholine (ACh) in patients with KD. M...

Aneurysms of the coronary sinus and superior vena cava are rare and their aetiologies remain controversial. Some studies have shown that these acquired venous aneurysms are caused by an increase in right atrial pressure, which may be related to right heart failure. However, few reports have provided direct evidence to support this hypothesis. We present a rare case of combined giant aneurysms o...

Kawasaki Disease (KD) is the leading cause of acquired pediatric heart disease. A subset of KD patients develops aneurysms in the coronary arteries, leading to increased risk of thrombosis and myocardial infarction. Currently, there are limited clinical data to guide the management of these patients, and the hemodynamic effects of these aneurysms are unknown. We applied patient-specific modelin...

Introduction Kawasaki disease (KD) is an acute, self-limited febrile illness that mainly affecting smallto medium-sized vessels and occurs in early childhood. The etiology is currently unknown, however it likely results from an immunologic response triggered by microbial agents, with documented genetic susceptibility. Intravenous administration of immunoglobulin (IVIG) is the gold standard ther...
