A cutaneous Mycobacterium avium complex (MAC) infection is a rare infection that can occur through direct inoculation or via dissemination to the skin. We report an interesting case of disseminated cutaneous MAC infection in a 45-year-old man with acquired immunodeficiency syndrome (AIDS), currently treated with highly active antiretroviral therapy (HAART) and MAC prophylaxis.
Accumulating evidence suggests that cutaneous human papillomavirus (HPV) infection is associated with non-melanoma skin cancer (NMSC). Little is known about the natural history of cutaneous HPV. A sub-cohort of 209 men with no NMSC history, initially enrolled in the HPV infection in men (HIM) study, were followed for a median of 12.6 months. Epidemiological data were collected through self-admi...

Fusarium species cause rare and severe infections. Their incidence is increasing in immunocompromised patients but they are also observed in healthy hosts. Because of the rapid dissemination of infection and the frequent resistance of Fusarium species to antifungal drugs, histopathologic evidence of hyphae is very helpful to obtain the diagnosis rapidly. We report the clinical and pathological ...
Leishmaniasis affects 1.5-2 million new cases in the world annually. Two major complications of cutaneous leishamaniasis include diffuse cutaneous leishamaniasis (DCL ) occurring in the setting of deficient cell mediated immunity, typically with HIV infection, and chronic cutaneous leishamaniasis (CCL ) developing in approximately 4% of L. tropica infections in Iran and Afghanistan which also m...

Primary cutaneous actinomycosis is very uncommon. We report a patient with cutaneous actinomycosis with multiple lesions without any detectable extra-cutaneous lesions. In our patient the actinomycosis was the presenting manifestation of HIV infection.
Tuberculosis remains a global disease burden, counting more than 9 million new cases per year. Tuberculosis is caused by infection with Mycobacterium tuberculosis-complex. Though most commonly affecting the lungs, any organ can become a site of tuberculous infection. Cutaneous tuberculosis is rare, representing 1-2% of all cases of tuberculosis. There are numerous different cutaneous manifestat...
RGM: rapidly growing mycobacteria INTRODUCTION Rapidly growing mycobacteria (RGM) are defined as nontuberculous mycobacteria that show growth within 7 days. RGM are widely distributed in the environment, and several studies have identified RGM in tap water. The ability of RGM to form biofilm serves to increase virulence and augment their resistance to disinfection. In immunocompetent patients, ...

The classical clinical picture is that of a necrotic and progressive skin ulcer of reticular pattern, mostly in the lower legs and susceptible to local infection. It is a product of mural calcification and occlusion of cutaneous and sub-cutaneous arter...
