ACTH inhibits DNA synthesis in normal rat and mouse tumor Y-1 adrenocortical cells within the same concentration range that it stimulates steroidogenesis. These processes can be independently regulated as demonstrated by the divergent actions of cytochalasin B on these cells. In the normal cells, cytochalasin B does not increase steroidogenesis in serum-free or serum-containing media, and it de...

Abstract The xylariaceous genus Dematophora has recently been resurrected and segregated from Rosellinia based on a molecular phylogeny morphological characters. This was an important taxonomic change because in the current sense contains several pathogens, while is limited to mainly saprotrophic species that have endophytic stage their life cycle may even beneficial effects host plants. During...

Cytochalasin B prevents both migration and wound-associated replication when applied to wounded monolayers of bovine endothelium in tissue culture. The normal low background rate of replication in undisturbed areas of the cultures is not inhibited by cytochalasin B. These results suggest that some form of movement may be required for initiation of wound-associated replication by endothelial cells.

The actin cytoskeleton plays an important role in macrophage-mediated inflammatory responses by modulating the activation of Src and subsequently inducing nuclear factor (NF)-κB translocation. In spite of its critical functions, few papers have examined how the actin cytoskeleton can be regulated by the activation of toll-like receptor (TLR). Therefore, in this study, we further characterized t...

Under conditions where cytochalasin B induces ATPase activity of monomeric actin (0.3 mM MgCl2, 1 mM EGTA, 30 microns cytochalasin B, 1 mM ATP) the rate constant of the exchange of actin-bound epsilon-ATP for free ATP is about 4-6 times faster than steady state ATPase activity. When a stoichiometric ATP-actin complex is extracted with PCA (single turnover experiment) the apparent rate constant ...

The hardening of the zona pellucida as a result of the cortical reaction was estimated in triploid oocytes produced with cytochalasin B by two different procedures. Triploid oocytes resulting from fertilization in the presence of cytochalasin B did not reveal hardening of the zona pellucida unlike triploids obtained by inhibiting in-vitro extrusion of the second polar body in oocytes fertilized...

Three antipeptide antibodies were prepared by immunizing rabbits with synthesized short peptides corresponding to residues 215-226, 466-479, and 478-492 predicted from the cDNA of both the human hepatoma HepG2 and rat brain glucose transporters. All three antibodies were found to precipitate quantitatively the [3H]cytochalasin B photoaffinity-labeled human erythrocyte glucose transporter. Each ...

Actin microfilaments transmit traction and contraction forces generated within a cell to the extracellular matrix during embryonic development, wound healing and cell motility, and to maintain tissue structure and tone. Therefore, the state of the actin cytoskeleton strongly influences the mechanical properties of cells and tissues. Cytochalasin D and Latrunculin are commonly used reagents that...
