Clinical guidelines have been shown to improve the quality of medical care and to reduce its costs. However, most guidelines exist in a free-text representation and, without automation, are not sufficiently accessible to clinicians at the point of care. A prerequisite for automated guideline application is a machine-comprehensible representation of the guidelines. In this study, we designed and...
The scale and diversity of networked sources of data and computer programs is rapidly swamping human abilities to digest and even locate relevant information. The high speed of computing has compounded this problem by the generation of even larger amounts of data, derived in ways that are generally opaque to human users. The result is an increasing gulf between human and computer abilities. Soc...
Learning novel tasks is a complex cognitive activity requiring the learner to acquire diverse declarative and procedural knowledge. Prior ACT-R models of acquiring task knowledge from instruction focused on learning procedural knowledge from declarative instructions encoded in semantic memory. In this paper, we identify the requirements for designing computational models that learn task knowled...
Definite Agent Logic Programs (definite ALPs), recently introduced by Drescher, Schiffel and Thielscher, provide an interesting alternative to imperative languages like GOLOG for specifying agent behavior. The main advantages of ALPs is that they are fully declarative and independent of the underlying action theory. In this paper we extend the expressiveness of ALPs by introducing nonmonotonic ...
The knowledge representation reasoning and declarative problem solving that we provide for you will be ultimate to give preference. This reading book is your chosen book to accompany you when in your free time, in your lonely. This kind of book can help you to heal the lonely and get or add the inspirations to be more inoperative. Yeah, book as the widow of the world can be very inspiring manne...
The maintenance of large knowledge systems usually is a rather complex task. In this paper we will show that extensions or modifications of a knowledge base can be supported by appropriate visualizations techniques, e.g. by illustrating dependencies of the considered knowledge. In particular, we introduce a declarative approach for querying and visualizing rule-based knowledge represented as XM...
In this paper we present a proposal for a knowledge-based programming environment. In such an environment, declarative background knowledge, procedures, and concrete data are represented in suitable languages and combined in a flexible manner. This leads to a highly declarative programming style. We illustrate our approach on an example and report about our prototype implementation.
Offline verbalization about a new motor experience is often assumed to positively influence subsequent performance. Here, we evaluated this presumed positive influence and whether it originates from declarative or from procedural knowledge using the explicit/implicit motor-learning paradigm. To this end, 80 nongolfers learned to perform a golf-putting task with high error rates (i.e., explicit ...
Industry is increasingly overwhelmed by large-volume-data. For example, the pharmaceutical industry generates vast quantities of data both internally as a side-eeect of screening tests and combinato-rial chemistry, as well as externally from sources such as the human genome project. Industry is also becoming predominantly knowledge-driven. Increased understanding not only improves products, but...
