We call a theory a Dedekind theory if every complete quantifier-free type with one free variable either has a trivial positive part or it is isolated by a positive quantifier-free formula. The theory of vector spaces and the theory fields are examples. We prove that in a Dedekind theory all positive quantifier-free types are principal so, in a sense, Dedekind theories are Noetherian. We show th...

We construct a singular homology theory on the category of schemes of finite type over a Dedekind domain and verify several basic properties. For arithmetic schemes we construct a reciprocity isomorphism between the integral singular homology in degree zero and the abelianized modified tame fundamental group.

The literature on Dedekind sums is vast. In this expository paper we show that there is a common thread to many generalizations of Dedekind sums, namely through the study of lattice point enumeration of rational poly-topes. In particular, there are some natural finite Fourier series which we call Fourier-Dedekind sums, and which form the building blocks of the number of partitions of an integer...

Let T be the set of minimal primes of a Krull domain A. If S is a subset of T9 we form B = n AP for PeS and study the relation of the class group of B to that of A. We find that the class group of B is always a homomorphic image of that of A. We use this type of construction to obtain a Krull domain with specified class group and then alter such a Krull domain to obtain a Dedekind domain with t...

Call a domain R an sQQR-domain if each simple overring of R, i.e., each ring of the form R[u] with u in the quotient field of R, is an intersection of localizations of R. We characterize Prüfer domains as integrally closed sQQR-domains. In the presence of certain finiteness conditions, we show that the sQQR-property is very strong; for instance, a Mori sQQR-domain must be a Dedekind domain. We ...

A particular notion of limit is introduced, for Riesz space-valued functions. The definition depends on certain ideals of subsets of the domain. It is shown that, according with our definition, every bounded function with values in a Dedekind complete Riesz space admits limit with respect to any maximal ideal. For a countably generated group K and a function on K taking values that are either nonnega-tive integers or 1, we determine in Theorem 8 equivalent conditions for there to exist a Dedekind domain D with class group K such that, for each k in K, exactly (k) maximal ideals of D belong to k.

In this note we extend duality theorems for crossed products obtained by M. Koppinen and C. Chen from the case of a base field or a Dedekind domain to the case of an arbitrary noetherian commutative ground ring under fairly weak conditions. In particular we extend an improved version of the celebrated Blattner-Montgomery duality theorem to the case of arbitrary noetherian ground rings.
