Establishing how neurocircuit activation causes particular behaviors requires modulating the activity of specific neurons. Here, we demonstrate that magnetothermal genetic stimulation provides tetherless deep brain activation sufficient to evoke motor behavior in awake mice. The approach uses alternating magnetic fields to heat superparamagnetic nanoparticles on the neuronal membrane. Neurons, ...

The problem of anomalous heat production by hydrogenated metals is analysed in the light of deep sub-barrier nucleon transfer reactions. Consideration of the phenomena of condensed matter low energy nuclear reactions and in-vacuum few-body nuclear transfer reactions suggests that LENRs could be due to interactions among the isotopes of hydrogen and certain metals. It is postulated that hydrogen...

The possibility that subclinical increased heat of the limb may be an early and reliable sign in the diagnosis of deep venous thrombosis is being investigated using thermography. Of the 35 cases studied 17 have had early deep venous thrombosis confirmed on phlebography. Of these, 16 cases have been previously diagnosed using thermography.

Dental implants provide a continuous interface between the oral environment and the deep core structures of the jaws. Implants and trans-mucosal superstructures are primarily metal and heat conduction occurs readily. A hypothetical heat conduction model is investigated to determine the ranges of temperature gradients that might occur in implants. This model showed that a 60 degrees C heat sourc...

Heatstroke is the most severe form of the heatrelated illnesses and is caused by an excessive rise in deep body temperature due to thermoregulatory failure. It is characterized primarily by hyperthermia usually with core temperature above 40.6o C (105o F), central nervous system dysfunction, metabolic derangement and coma. Heat stroke is the least common but most serious form of heat disorder. ...

The onset of nucleate boiling in the flow of water through a microchannel heat sink was investigated. The microchannels considered were 275 lm wide by 636 lm deep. Onset of nucleate boiling was identified with a high-speed imaging system and the heat flux at incipience was measured under various flow conditions. An analytical model was developed to predict the incipient heat flux as well as the...

The article discusses the method of processing material used to compile a deep heat flow (HF) map on territory Ukraine. We are talking specifically about (corrected) HF, since its error (determined by differences in values at close points) is noticeably less than observed one and only can be construct (as rule, control) thermal models Earth's crust upper mantle. Despite unique study Ukraine thi...

The deep ocean absorbs vast amounts of heat and carbon dioxide, providing a critical buffer to climate change but exposing vulnerable ecosystems to combined stresses of warming, ocean acidification, deoxygenation, and altered food inputs. Resulting changes may threaten biodiversity and compromise key ocean services that maintain a healthy planet and human livelihoods. There exist large gaps in ...

Oxygen isotope analysis of benthic foraminifera in deep sea cores from the Atlantic and Southern Oceans shows that during the last interglacial period, North Atlantic Deep Water (NADW) was 0.4 degrees +/- 0.2 degrees C warmer than today, whereas Antarctic Bottom Water temperatures were unchanged. Model simulations show that this distribution of deep water temperatures can be explained as a resp...
