Bile Pigments, Protein Interaction, Conformation, Denaturation The chromophore-protein interactions of C-phycocyanin (C-PC) from Spirulina platensis have been studied by following the partial and complete denaturation with UV-Vis spectroscopy. From comparison with published MO calculations, an elongated conformation of the chromophore is sug gested for native C-PC, a cyclic one for denatured C...

Background. Marination is a good method to enhance attractiveness of chicken wings, which are considered by consumers as least attractive. Sensory value of marinated wings is dependent largely on the flavour of skin, because they contain proportionally more skin than other carcass elements. Moreover, skin constitutes a natural barrier, which may facilitate or hinder the penetration of marinade ...

To test the validity of thermodynamic parameters from the equilibrium method, we have studied the reversible heat-induced denaturations of lysozyme, ribonuclease A, cytochrome c and myoglobin at various pH values, using absorption spectral measurements. For each protein, if a linear temperature-dependence of the pre- and post-transition baselines is assumed for the analysis of the conformationa...

Evidence is brought forward to show that at concentrations of urea high enough to split the egg albumin molecule the solubility changes produced by urea are profoundly modified. The degree of precipitation after dialysis is the net result of two changes produced by the urea: the first, normally spoken of as denaturation, which makes the protein insoluble in dilute solution and the second, a spl...

Temperature-induced changes in protein intrinsic fluorescence of native, delipidated and deionized purple membranes are investigated. It is found that the removal of cations most strongly affects the protein and its thermal stability. The denaturation of dei-BR completes at 70 degrees C, while delipidated and native BR still maintain their native structure at this temperature. Both the quantum ...

We propose an encoding method of numerical data in DNA using temperature gradient. We introduce melting temperature (Tm) for this purpose. Melting temperature is a unique characteristic to manipulate the hybridization and denaturation processes that used in the key steps in DNA computing such as the solution generation step and the amplification step. DNA strands of lower melting temperature te...

Equilibrium and kinetic studies were carried out under denaturation conditions to clarify the energetic features of the high stability of a monomeric protein, ribonuclease HII, from a hyperthermophile, Thermococcus kodakaraensis (Tk-RNase HII). Guanidine hydrochloride (GdnHCl)-induced unfolding and refolding were measured with circular dichroism at 220 nm, and heat-induced denaturation was stud...

In the present work we studied the initial part of thermal denaturation curves of B. subtilis DNA in normal and heavy water, observing, by electron microscopy, the "opening" of DNA as a function of temperature. The results support the hypothesis that D(2)O plays a stabilizing role on strands separation during thermal denaturation of DNA.
