BACKGROUND AND AIMS Two out of three patients with Coeliac Disease (CD) in Australia are undiagnosed. This prospective clinical audit aimed to determine how many CD patients would be undiagnosed if duodenal biopsy had only been performed if the mucosa looked abnormal or the patient presented with typical CD symptoms. METHODS All eligible patients presenting for upper gastrointestinal endoscop...

Among duodenal tumors, lymphangioma is relatively infrequent. In this case report, we describe the case of a 65-year-old Japanese man with duodenal lymphangioma diagnosed by esophagogastroduodenoscopy. Endoscopically, the tumor appeared as a soft submucosal tumor with white spots. When the white spots were grasped by biopsy forceps, milky liquid exuded from the tumor. Additionally, observation ...
Small intestinal obstruction due to Strongyloides stercoralis is rare and has not been reported in an immunocompetent patient. We describe a 70-year-old immunocompetent man presenting with duodenal obstruction secondary to severe S. stercoralis infestation, as documented on duodenal biopsy. He was treated with ivermectin, with which he recovered remarkably.
We prospectively analyzed the coagulation abnormalities in 111 children with Celiac disease at diagnosis and its association with histology grade on duodenal biopsy; 27% had deranged prothrombin time. There was an increasing proportion of coagulopathy with progression of Marsh Grade on duodenal histology.
Intestinal involvement in Schistosoma mansoni infection is usually confined to the ileum and colon. Duodenal infestation was diagnosed in a patient with recurrent schistosomiasis despite treatment who presented with a postoperative small bowel fistula. Duodenal schistosomiasis can be suspected on endoscopy, but must always be confirmed by biopsy.
The objective of this study was to evaluate the usefulness of the laparoscopic technique for performing a biopsy of the gastric and duodenal wall in dogs. Endoscopic examinations were performed in five dogs, which were not conclusively diagnosed based on symptoms and the results of clinical and laboratory tests. A histopathological analysis of laparoscopically collected tissue samples supported...
BACKGROUND Duodenal metastasis is rare in renal cell carcinoma (RCC) and early detection, especially in case of a solitary mass, helps in planning further therapy. CASE PRESENTATION We present the case report of a 55 year old male with duodenal metastasis of RCC. This patient presented with jaundice and abdominal lump one year after nephrectomy. On upper gastrointestinal endoscopy a submucosa...
The activity of urea cycle enzymes was assayed in duodenal biopsy specimens obtained from a female infant who presented with neonatal hyperammonaemia. All enzyme levels were normal except N-acetyl glutamate-dependent carbamyl phosphate synthetase 1 (CPS1) which was half the mean activity in normal control specimens. A similar deficiency of CPS1 was also shown in duodenal specimens from the pati...
Difficulty in excluding duodenal ulceration by standard radiology has hampered investigation of duodenitis; endoscopy and biopsy add a new dimension. We have studied 51 patients with dyspeptic symptoms or bleeding in whom endoscopy revealed congested and irregular areas of duodenal bulb mucosa in the absence of ulcer or scar. Biopsy revealed unequivocal active inflammation-epithelial cell atypi...
