Studies of the effect of government spending on unemployment are potentially confounded by reverse causality. To address the endogeneity problem, we exploit variation in a porkbarrel road-building program, and find that higher government expenditure on road-building substantially reduces local unemployment. Wage dispersion is generated in a sequential search environment through heterogeneity in firm productivity along with an individual wage-effort tradeoff. For a given degree of TFP dispersion, the framework can generate any amount of wage dispersion. Calibrated to generate realistic gains from trade, it is able to generate the kind of wage dispersion observed in data. JEL codes: E24, J64
Radial glial cells play an essential role during corticogenesis through their function as neural precursors and guides of neuronal migration. Both reelin and neuregulin1 (NRG1) maintain the radial glial scaffold; they also induce expression of Brain Lipid Binding Protein (BLBP), a well known marker of radial glia. Although radial glia in normal ferrets express both vimentin and BLBP, this coexp...
Applying the Foster, Haltiwanger, and Krizan (2001) decomposition to plant-level manufacturing data from Chile Korea, we find that entry exit of plants account for a larger fraction aggregate productivity growth during periods fast GDP growth. To analyze this relationship, develop model firm based on Hopenhayn (1992). When introduce reforms reduce costs or barriers technology adoption into cali...
Background: The cold-adapted Idiomarina sp. 185 from Antarctic shoreline sediment and the mesophilic A19 brackish Lake Faro (Italy) were screened for their efficiency in biosurfactant production by a temperature-mediated approach, when grown rich culture medium mineral supplemented with biphenyl. Methods: oxidation of polychlorobiphenyls standard screening tests performed, i.e., E24 index detec...
We study the wealth distribution in Bewley economies with idiosyncratic capital income risk. We show analytically that under rather general conditions on the stochastic structure of the economy, a unique ergodic distribution of wealth displays a fat tail. © 2015 Elsevier Inc. There is evidence for developmental origins of vascular dysfunction yet little understanding of maturation of vascular smooth muscle (VSM) of regional circulations. We measured maturational changes in expression of myosin phosphatase (MP) and the broader VSM gene program in relation to mesenteric small resistance artery (SRA) function. We then tested the role of the sympathetic nervous system (...
The province of Aceh in Indonesia provides a promising case for studying the economic legacy effects conflict given subnational district-level data on violence and gross domestic product. We demonstrate specific negative armed despite general peace dividend: whilst all districts grow faster after ends 2005 than during conflict, that suffered relatively more from war slowly peacetime experienced...
